    browning hi power 40

    hi all,

i have an opportunity to purchase a lightly used good condition, bhp 40, at $600. Would like to add it to my collection colt commander 1911 stock, bhp 9mm stock. I like the 9mm very much and would like to complement it with the 40. Any words of advice, thoughts, comments.. please?

    Thank you! Paula

    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

The .40 cal HP has a heavier frame and the barrel has 3 locking lugs vs the lighter frame and 2 locking lugs on the bbl of the 9mm HP. An aftermarket 9mm bbl is available to install in the .40 HP should you so desire. FWIW the Browning HP is the only pistol I enjoy shooting the .40 S&W round out of; much more comfortable than say a Glock 23. Buy it....I think you'll like it.

      See post #7 below.

If you are considering high end .40s, have you tried shooting a Sig X5?

OP- $600 is a good price. Worst case, you can re-sell it on here, might even make a few bucks on it.

          This...BHP does .40 right.

If you want to add a 9mm barrel to the setup...

I'd like to run across one at a decent price. Get it and resell if you don't love it.

Oops....Meant to say the slide on the .40 HP is wider and heavier than the slide on the 9mm HP. Frames are basically the same.

Paula, what the heck are you going to do with it? Paperweight, CCW, target..........what. It makes a difference.

I guess that is a good price, but the design is antiquated, and has problems depending on what your intended use is.

If paperweight, yeah whatever........someone will be impressed.
