    S&W I-frame and J-frame parts compatibility?

I have an Pre War Regulation Police in 38S&W (NOT 38 SPL). Its an I-frame and I need a few new parts. I need a new hammer and a couple side plate screws. The I-frame is all but extinct but I'm hoping the parts from the J-frame will fit my I-frame. Anyone know, or know someone who knows if the hammer assembly and side plate screws are the same?

Well, thanks anyway guys. Anyone in the monterey bay have an older J-frame I can take a look at. I really need to compare the hammers. Or can someone take a couple pictures of theirs and maybe take a few measurements for me? Pleeeeeeeeeeeease? I've had this pistol for years and I'd like to get it finished.

      1. Buy and carefully read the Kuhnhausen shop manual for those revolvers.

      2. Ask the gun geeks over at the Smith and Wesson forum this kind of question: http://smith-wessonforum.com/

Thanks, I actually signed up yesterday to that forum and asked my question there. VERY knowledgeable people over there and they helped me with a list of people to contact for a replacement part. Hopefully I'll have a working pistol before the new year.
