    What semi auto for daughter?

My daughter is 12 and not that big but has been around and shot guns since she was 8. Started with a 22..then a single six, 15-22, and she's currently using my xd9 at the range and has shot my full size 1911 numerous times with 230 fmjs and have also loaded some 155 grain swc with a light load which she likes, along with shotguns, ARs and a 30-30. She's got the fundamentals and safety down.

I'm wanting to find her something that's a bit thinner, bit easier to manipulate the slide for locking it back and clearing malfunctions as well as less recoil for easier follow up shots for use in some training classes out at Frontsight with me.

I was thinking something like a Walther PK380 but that's not ca compliant and I've seen reviews of some issues... But it does seem to meet the easier slide and recoil bit....

    Any ideas?

    Maybe a CZ83 or Beretta 84 or 85? Bersa 380?

A hk use 9 full/mid size racks like a hot knife threw butter. Give it some time and practise, she will manipulate the heckling out of it. She would probably have it for the rest of her life.

You can find them around 600-700. They are accurate, reliable, light, easy to use.

If not into hammers then find her a Walter PPQ or P99 in 9mm best striker fired gun in the world imo.

I would of said a cz p01 but if she has small hands then the control may be hard use.

Sig P232, M&P9, SP101, Springfield EMP,.... Why don't you just take her to the gun store and let her pick.

What's wrong with the XD9? I'm a shocked if it's not a better fit than what is available right now. The grip on them is fairly small for a defensive caliber double stack pistol. Otherwise single stacks that might work include the p225 and p239.

Agreed, I'm a little surprised she hasn't claimed your xd9. Lol

                Sig 225 or 239. Single stack 9mm.

                  From the original post..

I'm wanting to find her something that's a bit thinner, bit easier to manipulate the slide for locking it back and clearing malfunctions as well as less recoil for easier follow up shots...

Letting her handle them at the gun store would be good for the feel and the slide, but not the recoil difference. To me, the XD9 recoil due to the weight is about the same as my steel framed full size 1911.

She likes the thinness of the 1911 grip. As I said I'd like less recoil if possible and an easier slide to manipulate......

                      Stay away from .380

Stick to 9MM minimum. Actually .380 is a snappy round, much more than 9. And the cost is not the best. (unless you reload)

My daughter is now 14. And she loves shooting just about everything.

Her favorite was my old 1992 generation 2, Glock 17. I hardly got a chance to shoot it. hehehe

So for her Birthday I built her a Glock 19 out of Parts. The thread is here:

She loves it. I am so GLAD parents are giving their kids a gun education. We need more of that in this Country. JMO...

You're a Good dad my friend...

BTY..she keeps this in her room. She also is responible for cleaning it after a range trip. No problem.

Have her try a czp01. Or any cz for that matter, very comfy little recoil and accurate as hell!!! Not quite as thin as a 1911, but not as fat as an xd as well

If you'd like a soft shooting .380, then I'd prob suggest the Sig P238 HD/HDW models which are their all stainless steel ones. The P238 is already a soft shooting gun in the regular alloy frame so the steel framed models should be a bit more so. Racking the slide is a breeze and all controls are within easy reach being such a small gun. And yes, I'm biased towards this gun. There's also its bigger brother the P938 which just came out in 9mm if you wanted to move up in caliber but stay within the same form factor as the P238.

Or here's a shot in the dark, a Ruger new model blackhawk convertible 3 calipers 1 gun, no semi auto but lots of options for rounds used from hot loads to mild
