    Kimber 1911's

Well, I have taken a long break from owning a 1911. In 2008 I purchased a Kimber custom 2, it was pretty awesome althought it took about 700+ rounds to finally break in and be reliable by then I was on to bigger and better things or so I thought so it was sold and let's put it this way my Itrader was 0 back then so oh man........

Anyways in following years or owning, trading, shooting I've owned a Kimber TLE II RL in stainless and blued, both had reliability issues as pre owned on one and out of the box I did not want to spend the dough on putting 1k rounds through it which is what most told me I had to do so I made buyers aware that they were stillin the break in period and traded and got heavily into Sig's which are still my fav.

After owning a Dan wesson Cbob, Springfield TRP Operator & MC Operator, Wilson Combat Protector and Nighthawk T3 that leaves a certain expectation on you, heck it just screws you up. So for the longest time I refused to pick up any 1911's because of the cost of getting a good one.

Last week I saw a Kimber Custom II go up for sale at a reasonable price $650, found out it was a 2005 or older and that got me excited, I did a PPT and went to a local gunsmith and had the plans to do a trigger job, reliability overhaul whatever it took to make this sucker work and for the price I paid I had room to do so (btw it only had 100 rounds through it and showed). After carefull inspection, testing out the trigger and putting a couple boxes through it, holy crap the internals were polished and maybe honed is the word, sorry for my lack of expertise it's been a while, trigger was right around 4lb this was a true freaking custom gun out of the box. WHAT the heck happened, I have so many friends that swore off kimber's due to reliability issues and some part of me wanted to make one work even if I had to spend a few hundred bux to do so. Now I just orderd a pair of TFO sights and VZ slim grips and this sucker is staying in the collection without a doubt. I'll be in this in the low 800's when done and that's how it should be for a reliable shooter without having to waste your first $400 in ammo to get it warmed up..

Thanks for reading my rant, to sum it up I wanted any feedback from others if their kimber's have gotten better over the years or if I want to expand my kimber collection I am doomed to only look for earlier years in which most people wont want to get rid of. I know Nighthawk has some of the same issues but i've owned newer ones and shot them out of the box and they have all been flawless, grant it you better get that for $2500+..

The 2 Kimbers I've owned in the past were great. I regret selling the TLE/RL since it was reliable and clean. Overall, I like Kimber 1911's more so than a comparable (dare I say it on here) a parkerized Springfield Loaded, which I was debating on getting compared to the Kimber each time.

The only 2 things I didn't care for in the Kimber was the matte finish (wore pretty easily if not cared for.... I'm anal about that), and the other was the "match" barrel oxidizing on me over time. However, I would just scrub it off with a light pad and some polishing agent, but still I never had that problem on other 1911 barrels.

My first 1911 is my Kimber TLE, only thing I have done to it was install a new Recoil Spring and ordered a bunch of mags/ammo.

Absolutely accurate, no issues at the moment, Trigger is Perfect for me and no way am I doing work on it. She is a keeper and great as is.

Already saving up for my 2nd 1911. I got a custom Les Baer in mind.

first 1911 was a kimber custom II from 2010. utterly reliable, smooth trigger, very accurate, and the insides look waay better than the insides of my CZ's. the only mod i can think of is replacing the plastic MSH with a steel, but that's it.

when the custom II's go on sale new for 750, i believe they are a great value when it comes to accuracy/reliability/fit and finish.

First Kimber I bought was a used Custom II from a fellow Calgunner in 2010. My initial impression was it was a solid, smooth, high quality built 1911. When I shot it, I was more than impressed with the accuracy and reliability.

I bought my second Kimber, a Gold Match II in April 2011. It was a repeat of the earlier experience but only better since it was a brand new gun.

I am now on the hunt for my 3rd Kimber experience.

My first and only Kimber so far is a Custom CDP II, aside from a small issue with the finish, I've had ZERO issues with reliability or function.

I own four, all bought new all great right out of the box. No brake in needed, a CDP-PRO bought in 2001, a Tactical custom II in 2009, CDP ultra in 2010 and a Desert Warrior bought this year. The one thing all but the CDP-PRO(Wilson mags) they have in commen is Tripp mags its all I use in them and all they do is run over 10,000 rounds fired collectively.
Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.

In the summer of 2011, I bought a never-been-fired Kimber Classic at the Del Mar Gun Show.

Beautiful gun! Never a problem, unlike my previous Eclipse pro II. Trigger pull is just right and she's accurate.

Originally, I was going to replace the trigger and mainspring housing, but later I discovered that those parts were from Chip McCormick. Why f&#$ with a good thing, eh?

The only 1911 I have that may rival the Classic is a Colt 70 that was heavily modded and is still in the break-in process.

As a follow up to this thread: today I just put a down payment on another new Kimber Custom II. I find that the Kimbers are worth it collecting and owning.

                      Hi fullspeed1,

Thanks. Its my way of commemorating Veteran's Day, to support the economy of the New Yorkers in the aftermath of Sandy, and to support an American company. Plus, I just like and admire Kimbers.

Congrats buddy...now you have someplace to put that extra memory bump grip safety that's been collecting dust, that is unless you bought a stainless model!

Thanks Ellison. Its still the black oxide finish. I can give you back the GS, the one I just bought is tight all over, just the way I like it. It was also in a sealed blue plastic bag dripping with factory oil----real pristine, guaranteed untouched by others, except me.

Wow. Love all these responses , I'm going to have to check out these Tripp mags in same running as Wilson??

I guess maybe 2008-2009 when I owned mine were bad years or just bad luck and they got their game back together ?
