My favortie 9mm is the Sig Sauer P226. You can find a Certified Pre Owned for less than $600.00.

I own a Glock a while it's a good gun I don't like shooting it. Go handle a bunch of guns and then rent the ones that feel best to you.

Here's another recommendation to try before you buy.

My favorite centerfire handguns are my CZ75B, Springfield 1911, and S&W 586 revolver.

I've owned a Glock 17 and a SIG P239, and they're fine, high quality guns, but I just don't like them. They don't fit me well and I don't shoot them intuitively. I sold the Glock and am ready to sell the SIG, but the CZ75B's my favorite, and was only $300 back in the day.

Unless you're planning on buying multiple guns (and that will probably come!), choose carefully for your first. It really makes a difference.

That gun will feed anything and if you where smart and bought high cap 17rd mags before the ban (which I'm sure you did) you can use those.

I did a test and didn't clean my glock 17 for a couple thousand rounds and it still functioned 100%. I noticed the glock range guns for rent were always durty. I asked them why they were that way when all the other guns looked semi clean. They told me they never have to clean the glocks. They get 6 months worth of shooting and then they clean them. Its the only gun out of a wall full that can do that.

I trust my life 100% to my glock. I have never had a problem with in the 7 years I have owned it. Its tough as nails and does not rust. The only thing you might have to get used to is the grip. Some like it, like myself, and some hate it. Rent one a few times and see how you like it.

Bu, you should quit your job and apply as a sales representative for GLOCK man! I'm feeling like buying a Glock and I don't even like them!!!

Another +1 on the CZ-75. I will also point out that Crimson Trace now has the long-awaited CZ-75 laser grips!

Also, the CZ-75 has the Kadet adapter available for it, which is a 22 conversion slide. I shoot the Kadet more than the 9mm slide on my CZ-75. It just feels wrong shooting 9mm when I'm primarily a 45ACP and 40cal guy.

I really want to get a CZ-75 in 40cal before it drops off of the list...

As far as all this nonsense that you don't need to clean Glock ever.... well that may (and seems to be) true and so what?
I can use my cell phone as door stopper, but I don't do that. I can run 2K rounds through my HK and see if it still functions, but I don't do that.
Under any probable condition you'll have to use a gun you will shoot around 200 rounds. That would be at the range.
In self-defense situation you will shoot 10-20 rounds. Maximum.
If you'll ever be carrying in field and you gun gets in a mud or whatever you should clean anyway, so you can trust that it will shoot. That goes to glock and no glock.

So, while all this stories about glock reliability are surely amusing.... and they are testament of the excellent design of the Glocks, they are of no consequence when choosing gun. Under any normal and EXPECTED care Glock, Sig, HK, CZ, XD etc are reliable guns. With CZ being cheapest and easiest to shoot.

I've got a CZ-75 story, second hand but still interesting. Back when I was working at mp3.com, one of the managers was a veteran of the South African military. He disposed of the handgun they issued him, and went with a CZ-75. He says the thing never failed him, and it wasn't for lack of use. In South Africa, I imagine that 'use' is generally not at the range.

and I have owned the glock 17 & 34
I have shot the Sigs, the USP compact & P200, along with a number of others.

I'd suggest renting a few of your choices at a range, and making a decision from there.

I love the Glocks, XDs, and HKs... but it all boils down to personal preference.
