    1911 Recommendations, Specific Requirements

    Hi all,

Within the next few months I will be in the market for a 1911. I am hoping to get the following specs on it, but don't have much hands on experience in the 1911 field. *limited shooting, more of a glock guy. I was hoping to get the following:

    -Full size 5 inch frame
-Minimum 8+1 capacity (Will run extended 10 rounders)
    -Tactical Rail for Surefire X300
    -Ambidextrous safety
-Night Sights (Can just put aftermarkets on if not available)
-Preferably in OD green, unless I custom coat that after

This will be a fun gun/possible tactical gun for HD or training. Obviously I would like to have a quality one, with a showroom look and a spartan like performance. Price is around 6-700, I was looking at the RIA Tactical w/rail just in relation to the price considerations. Any suggestions on make/model? Thank you in advance for your help!

For your price range, you are limited to RIA, used Kimber or Sig.

Were I you, I would ditch the rail, and try to find a used Springfield or well loved Baer for 1200 or so. If you were willing to spend a bit more, and give up the upgraded thumb safeties and other goodies, you would have more choices on a nice, accurate, reliable 1911. Look for a nice milspec piece. Also, you could look for a nice Colt. FYI, 10 round magazines don't have a good reliability track record in 1911's.

Your requirements and price range are incompatible, unfortunately.

It seems that you're stuck on RIA.

The MC Operator that you see a lot of people selling these days fits your requirements perfectly.... except on the price.

I don't think you can find any 1911 with a factory rail for less than $1000 new.

A number of mfg have new railed 1911s that are under $1000 actually....

Sig, Taurus, ATI, PARA, RIA...I am sure I am forgetting a few. You will need SSE for most of these, but not the Sig.

Kimber Desert Warrior - the color is off (FDE instead of OD green) and the price is closer to $1500, but it has everything else you asked for. You are going to have a tough time getting everything on your list at your price point.

                    OP...why a 1911 in 45acp with 10 round mags?

You are looking for a High End gun at a low-end price.
RIA tactical is your choice for new. I have not seen one locally with a rail. You will have to search for this.
RIA will be Parkerized, not OD Green.
You will need to add your own night sights.
Stock magazine is 8 rounds, I think. any 1911 mag should fit, cannot say how well they will work.
                      Good luck.

You options are pretty limited if you're set on a railed one in that price range. New Taurus PT1911, used Kimber Warrior, or maybe a used Sig Sauer TACOPS (my preference if I was in your situation).

Maybe I got lucky but the two 10rd Chip McCormick mags I have work great in all of my Colt's. It does feel a little weird because you can notice the weight difference and it is weird having those extra rounds when you are used to 8.
