    Which 1911 Frame and why?

Regardless of the CA safe handgun list, if you could get any 1911 frame and build your own pistol, which one would you get, and why?

This would be intended for target shooting, and possible use in IPSC/IDPA competitions. I know there are some rules for either of those that will have to be taken into account.

So, what do you think? Caspian? STI? Double Stack? Single Stack?

It looks just plain beastly and the extra heft up front does help manage recoil a bit better. Plus, an angel told me that when God called JMB to heaven it was to build him a full rail 1911!

The carbon fiber one with the titanium slide and mahogany grips

Very nice fit and Finnish, in 5 inch or 4.25 comander length. Also thin single stacked, or double.

The titanium can be heated to get a cool color effect if disiered, and your frame taped for a optic mount.

They come with night sights stock.

          In 45, 10mm, 9mm, and 50gi..

With a $750 dollar price tag.

          Great company too

And built in the US with a lifetime warranty.

          They stand behind their products.

If you go with a single-stack, anything with frame rails machined to National Match specifications.

I'm kind-of leaning this direction but I noticed that I could get the Para for $900:

No rail on that one but still, given the PITA I will have to go through to build up a Caspian, I might as well consider buying the whole thing. I didn't know that Paras were that cheap! Any other OEM double stacks that are reasonable?

You ever put hands on a para? I handled a warthog and was not impressed at all... it just felt cheap and gritty, horrible reset and length of pull left something to be desired as well... sti trojan, great midrange gun out of the box and you can get one with a dawson precison package for about $1600 new so if u shop around a bit youd probably get one for $1400

Forged steel is the thing to look for, oversized rails so that the slide to frame fit can be set tight without peening or other tricks.

Of course the critical dimensions must be in spec.

STI/SVI/Fusion double stack frames are pretty neat because you can modify the grip frame to fit and if you mess it up, just buy a new one.

For a light weight, aluminum is about as light as it gets.

Paraodnance seems clunky to me. The frame is extra wide for the double stack magazine and then it has grips on top of that. The STI style double stack makes more sense because the grip does double duty.
