My friend is in the market for a gun for protection. He does a lot hiking and doing outdoor stuff, anyway he was looking into the SR9C but then asked me if a grizzly bear was to chase after him will he able to protect himself from a bear attacj with a 9mm? Thanks for all your opinons.

Where in Northern California does this grizzly bear exist? There hasn't been a grizzly in CA for at least 100 years. And your friend might be " attacj " by a bear? What is that language? Slovanian?

You can actually do your research and figure out what you have the chance to run into at the particular national park you plan to visit. You can also get statistics on injuries, animal attacks, alien sightings, and zombie infestations. Just sayin.

i'd be more worried about the guys at home depot stealing sh*t from my service truck than a bear attack, but sounds like the spray would be the best bet here. also works on rival hikers if they become annoying, trying to talk you into buying a prius, smart car, eating only organic foods or some nonsense. otherwise, nothing less than a 44mag or a .45 with hardball in a pinch. 9mm simply won't do, unless you do like the other guy said and off yourself before it eats you. still might not work, lol.

Tell your friend to: stay on trail to avoid pot growers, take bear spray to use on any grizzlies that show up, and to take the 9mm to shoot any hiking buddies he may have in the leg if a grizzly does show up.

You more likely run into pot grower than bears in California.
BTW, you probably also need proper permits before carry a gun while hiking.
