Another grand more is 50% more. The full rail TRP OPERATOR has a full length match grade bull barrel which I haven't seen in the others.
I to loved my MC OPERATOR but It doesn't come close to this set up for accuracy. So the MC is leaving.sigpic

Except you are wrong. I've run a TRP half rail in the past. But, $1100 for a Colt Rail Gun still leaves me with $800.00 for customizing before I get to the price in the original post. Never mind the wild prices people are asking for them. If given the choice, I'd rather have the Colt and the customizing. If I'm going to spend $2100.00 on a pistol, it's not going to be a TRP. At that price I can do the above mentioned customized Colt or possibly get a Baer. Or I can save a few hundred more and buy a SACS gun or Wilson Combat or a Cylinder and Slide Trident etc. If I don't want to spend that much, I would take a look at a Dan Wesson. I don't have anything against the TRP. In fact, as I've said in other threads, I think it's a fine pistol. But, as I said earlier in this thread, IMO, it's a $1300-$1600 gun.
Also, just holding a gun means nothing. Running the gun is all that really counts. So many make their decision based on holding a pistol in a gun shop. I don't give a **** how it feels until I can run some rounds and preferably some difficult drills with it. That's what matters.Comment

Perhaps I mistook your question for a comment. But I thought you were implying that I had never shot a TRP and I was saying that I actually had. That's what I was saying you were wrong about. You phrased it as a statement, but punctuated with a question mark, so maybe I misunderstood.Comment

Market price is averaging about $1800 for these right now, new in box. I paid $1500, but would happily pay $1800 for one if it was available and I was looking for one. They are pretty scarce, so you need to pay to play sometimes.
Mine is my EDC, so I'm really dialed into the platform. I'm flexible with price when I'm looking for something particular and nothing else fits the bill quite right.

I just helped two people on 1911 forum buy two I personally saw in town both for $1535 brand new. Both in the last month.
These 2k ads for used ones is hilarious. I have two and didn't pay over 1600 for either, brand new.Comment

I do own a Railgun and the TRP Operator is far and away a better gun. The so called "match grade" barrel in the Railgun is a drop-in barrel that is not fit to the gun so it shoots no better than a stock mil-spec barrel. The TRP barrels are fit to the gun so they lockup the same every time for better accuracy. The TRP comes with the S&A magwell and checkered front strap whereas the Railgun has neither. The TRP has adjustable sights but the Railgun is only fixed. The TRP comes with multiple grips (including a G10 pair) but the Railgun has only the stock plain ones. The TRP has a much better trigger, but that doesn't matter to me since I always have that worked on first anyway. If you were to add all these things to a Railgun, you'd eat up all or nearly all of that $800 but you'd still have a lower quality gun with a plastic mainspring housing and Series 80 firing pin safety.Except you are wrong. The closest competitor to the Railgun is actually the Springfield MC Operator which I also own. That is also a better gun than the Railgun. The features are similar, but the quality out of the box is much better on the Springer.I voted against Obama before it was cool.

It looks just plain beastly and the extra heft up front does help manage recoil a bit better. Plus, an angel told me that when God called JMB to heaven it was to build him a full rail 1911!Comment

Why would you want adjustable sights on an (ostensibly) combat gun? The TRP barrels are no more "match" than any production "match" barrel (not very). In any case, the hand fitting on TRP's in general is pretty minimal and definitely less than a custom job or even a semi-custom producer. The $1500-$2000 price bracket is deservedly dominated by Dan Wesson and Les Baer.
Regarding the Series 80 firing system, you can replace that yourself/ have it done with any trigger work/firing component replacement. Also, if I'm going to get custom work done on any gun, I'm dumping the plastic MSH and crappy MIM parts right off the bat.WTS all BNIB: Colt S70 Repro, HK45c, Gen4 G19Comment

If I shoot the same load every time then I'd probably opt for fixed sights. However, combat gun or not I think many people use a pistol for multiple purposes and shoot different loads in different situations, so adjustable sights are great for this reason. With regard to a single use pistol for combat only, I still want the most accurate gun I can get regardless if I'm expecting to engage only at 7' or less. To get that accuracy I want to practice with my ammo of choice and if I find it shoots low or high I want adjustable sights to zero it in. In my combat style gun (I say style since I'm not in combat for a living) I do run fixed sights, but I had to change the rear sight for a different height to hit zero with the ammo I use. That was a lot of work so I'd just recommend adjustables to avoid all that. Why would you want adjustable sights on an (ostensibly) combat gun? The turnover rate on the full rail is phenomenal...... Everyone wants one till they have one! TRP is a fantastic pistol, but the full rail just isn't for everyone. Looks great but just "doesn't have it" after ownership.WTB: S&W 617 4" 10 shot Pre-LockComment

You are comparing a $1100 gun to a $1600 gun, which do you think will have more features? Yes the Colt barrels are fit to the gun, not sure where you get your info from but I have talked to Colt about this. Just because you overpaid for a Railgun doesn't change the fact that it is an $1100 production gun.I do own a Railgun and the TRP Operator is far and away a better gun. It does for me. And I'm interested in your opinions, there's much comparisons between the rail gun and full rail operator but no one is mentioning that the two have completely different barrel and bushing set-ups.
The full length bull barrel in the operator (full rail) is much tighter in my opinion.sigpic
