Yeah, 30 day hold on consignment guns. It gives law enforcement time to check to see if it was stolen or not, or so they say.

wouldn't it be a ppt since the owner still owns it? it would seem to me the owner would just have to come in fill out his paper work to sell it, and buyer fill out his. the store would just collect a set price or percentage for showing it and selling it. the 30 day deal doesn't sound right to me. i know on pawns there is a set period of time before they sell guns but the 30 day deal is new to me. after all its on consignment.

30 days for a legal check on the firearm? Cops know in 7 seconds if your piece is stolen or not.

This just increased my resistance to ever purchase a consigned firearm.

Yes, police can check in 7 seconds if the gun is stolen or not....but someone can rob a place while the owners are gone for the weekend and have it in a shop within minutes. From what I have been told, the 30 day hold is to ensure that everything comes up clear. This is just what I've been told by an FFL, and I THINK (but I may be wrong) it was Chris over at BSP who was explaining it to me. I'm not saying that is fact, just what I heard.

And yes, it's a hassle, and that's why I tend to not look at to buy or consider putting my guns up as consignment guns.

Side story, but it reminded me of it while I was reading this topic. I was reading an article in Guns & Ammo a while ago (from when they had those 6 month free trials) and there was an article written by a guy whose friend was no longer allowed to own firearms. What had happened was the man, living in another state at the time, had purchased a M14esque rifle face to face from another resident (legal in other states). Then, many years later, he hit financial troubles and put his guns up for pawn to get some cash. He went in later to pick them up and they were doing the required paperwork to transfer them back to him. Upon doing this it was revealed that the M14 rifle was infact reported stolen the 20-some years prior. Gun was detained untill police could take it and he was charged with posession of a stolen firearm. He did nothing wrong, but the laws made him a criminal.
