Yes, I did not mention them eariler because they are rare (I've seen more Borchardts, than antique Mauser C96).
Mauser C96 that were made before 01-01-1899 are considered antiques. [18 USC 921 (a)(16)(A)]
A Mauser C96 made before 01-01-1899 would be exempt from CA's assault weapons laws and it can legally have a shoulder stock attached to it while in CA.
Good luck finding one.
18 USC 921
(a) As used in this chapter—
(16) The term “antique firearm” means—
(A) any firearm (including any firearm with a matchlock, flintlock, percussion cap, or similar type of ignition system) manufactured in or before 1898; or
(B) any replica of any firearm described in subparagraph (A) if such replica—
(i) is not designed or redesigned for using rimfire or conventional centerfire fixed ammunition, or
(ii) uses rimfire or conventional centerfire fixed ammunition which is no longer manufactured in the United States and which is not readily available in the ordinary channels of commercial trade; or
(C) any muzzle loading rifle, muzzle loading shotgun, or muzzle loading pistol, which is designed to use black powder, or a black powder substitute, and which cannot use fixed ammunition. For purposes of this subparagraph, the term “antique firearm” shall not include any weapon which incorporates a firearm frame or receiver, any firearm which is converted into a muzzle loading weapon, or any muzzle loading weapon which can be readily converted to fire fixed ammunition by replacing the barrel, bolt, breechblock, or any combination thereof.Last edited by Quiet; 10-14-2012, 12:21 PM.sigpic

Just to be pedantic, the cut-off date should be "before 01-01-1899" since "manufactured **in** 1898" still qualifies as antique. I just doubled the number of antique broomhandles!Comment

That's a really nice piece. I wish I had the money for antiques. It's a piece of history.(\__/)

Thats a big difference from the $55k on the other piece. It just feels very hard to put a price on the pieces that appears just once in a while. If you ever decide to let this heirloom goes, let me know.
I'd rather be at the range!
