    FTE: why?

Yesterday had quite a few FTE problems at the range. About 7 out of 100 rounds. It's the second hundred through my new P226. The first hundred had not a single problem. Could it be that when I cleaned it last time I accidentally got some lube on the extractor claw?

Range ammo used? Check it with different ammo. In my experience range ammo is always the cheapest crap that can go bang.
Make shure extractor has a good edge on it. No dings or chips etc.. Does it move? Spring in tact?
Lube will not cause this failure.

Send it back to Sig. They'll replace your extractor in a week.

Lube on extractor shouldn't cause a prob.

Did you clean and lube prior to your first 100? Difference in ammo or mags used? Anyone else shoot your gun to rule out limp-wresting? Need more info...

Also, is this a brand new gun or used? And did you change anything on it i.e. recoil spring, etc...

Brand new gun. Nobody else shot from it but me. Ammo was the same both times (Federal Champion FMJ 9mm from Walmart) but it was different production lots.

Nothing has been changed in the gun. Everything is stock. It was absolutely flawless the first time I shot it.

I did clean it before shooting the first time.

            I have a few guesses:

            Not enough lube... http://sigforum.com/eve/forums/a/tpc...35/m/908103701
            Try different ammo

I gather you are referring to failure to extract (leaving the casing in the chamber) as opposed to failure to eject (not kicking the case out the ejection port).

Do you have the external extractor?
Is it the long one or the short one?

If you can't figure it out with something simple, the best bet is to just call SIG CS in the morning

I hate seeing this excuse for FTE.. A gun should fire every time unless something is mechanically wrong. Bad form should not be an issue but to effect accuracy.

Something wrong, send back to Sig
I'd say go this rout since its a new gun send it back after a try of lube and making sure you cleaned and greased the gun properly and know its not just a maintenance issue. You paid good $$ for it it should run properly and to spec.

But it sounds like a extractor issue.

It was a failure to extract (case stuck in chamber). I don't think it could be limp wristing (it is a heavy stainless p226, and everything was perfect the first time). I think I will see if it happens the next time, and if it does then will call SIG's customer service.

I was just thinking maybe there is some simple common reason for it to happen.

BTW, does the orange end of the recoil spring go first on the guide rod? I mean the orange end towards the chamber and away from the muzzle end.

Not enough lube, in all the right places. It's a brand new stainless, lube it up and fire away.

BTW I had a similar issue with my brand new TRP stainless. I just got a little more liberal with the lube.

The orange end is towards the trigger and away from muzzle but that's not the issue. Some people got bad extractors, have sent it back to Sig, they replaced the extractor, and it's all good.

Why not try different ammo - might be a bad lot. Also check the chamber make sure it's clean.

You forgot to mention if it is an internal or external extractor.

Also if external, if it is the long or short one.
