The P228 is arguably one one the finest 9mm's ever made. The balance of size and weight puts it on a level of its own. German made or not, I can't tell a difference. You certainly can't go wrong with a used P228. Just look at the rails to make sure it wasn't abused. Most guys tend to use a grease on the rails instead of just lube.
That being said, I wouldn't hesitate to pick up a 2022. In fact it may be one of my next purchases. Looks like a solid gun at a great price. Compare it to an XD if you get the chance in a store. They're pretty similar. My next door neighbor is in the navy and his issue gun is a P228. He just bought an XD because of the price to practice with when he's not at work. He wanted something similar to the Sig without the price tag. Not sure why he didn't get a 2022.
The problem is there are just so many great choices available today.
