Best all around trigger pull .45 SA

    Hi All,

Im looking for some advice on the trigger pull of my 1911. Its currently at 2.5 pounds which is ok for me at the range in my opinion. But I also want to have the gun avalialbe for HD if necessary. I've heard that 2.5 is too light for HD. What is the current opinion out there on a best all around trigger pull? I dont plan on shooting competition or anything. I will accept the answer "Its not a glock so nothing will help" if you must.

If you can handle it under pressure, 2.5 is fine.

If you think stress will mess with your gross motor reflexes (it will to some extent), beef up your mainspring and maybe bend your sear spring to put more pressure on the sear (or better yet, buy a new sear spring to fool around with so you don't screw up what you've got).

If you're comfortable shooting it, why change it?

The fate of the wounded rest in the hands of the ones who apply the first dressing.

For home defense, you probably want to be in the realm of 4-4.5lbs respectively, which can be accomplished by simply adjusting the center leaf of the sear spring.

Actually, I would recommend purchasing a new sear spring and keeping your existing sear spring on reserve for trips to the range.

Rule of thumb is 4lbs. 3.5lbs is the absolute lowest for most people on an HD gun.

Reason being...2.5lbs might be fine when you're at the range or under competition stress, but there's something about the fight or flight response that makes it ideal to have a beefier trigger.

If it works for you I'd keep it.I had a glock that I was running in 3 lbs and I loved.I returned it because it became my ccw gun when I moved to TX.

In theory, it doesn't matter because if your gun is pointed at some badguy in your house and you put your finger anywhere near the trigger, you are going to shoot him. Otherwise keep your finger out of the trigger guard!

Remember to dial 1 before 911.

Forget about stopping power. If you can't hit it, you can't stop it.

                    There. Are. Four. Lights!
