But so is your front yard and yet you cannot carry a loaded firearm there unless you have a fence. Anywhere easily accessible to the public, which includes your property if there is no physical barrier to people wandering onto it, is "public" as far as loaded weapons are concerned. Much to the frustration of many of "us" types of people.

AaronT -- you can do what you suggest as long as the gun is EMPTY, which includes the magazine well and, obviously, the chamber. A loaded magazine can be locked inside of the same case as the gun. It cannot be in the gun -- must be totally separate. So... sort of close but not quite what you were looking for.

Anywhere you want... aside from attached to the firearm.

For the purposes of self defense,this inquiry is sadly irrelevant. By the time you pop the lid on your locked case and loaded the weapon,the bad guy could have finished a game of chess before you'll be ready to fight back.

There's a reason laws in anti-gun states mandate weapons be in locked cases, as it renders them useless for anything but transport to and from permitted locations.

Magazines/ammunition are not affected by 'zones'; actually bringing ammo onto school property, however, is prohibited (except for LTC). The way the law (626.9) is written, it's arguable that the gun itself is permitted, unloaded and in the locked case, but the ammo is prohibited by PC 12316(c).

You can keep the magazine full of rounds anywhere you want, including within the same container as the gun. You just cannot have that magazine actually inside the gun (and you cannot have a round in the tube).

I live in Riverside County. I hear that they are difficult to get, but I am not sure and haven't tried. Is Riverside county pretty lenient about CCW's?
