Stupid question, but did you load the mags and let them sit fully loaded for a day or so prior to shooting the first time?

The reason I ask is becuase with my M&P Shield, I didn't and had all kinds of fits the first day out with the new mags!

I thought it was the ammo and other reasons, NOPE, it was the brand new mags. The springs are really tight/strong and need to have the tension broken in. Not sure if that was the right terminology or not, forgive me.

After learning this the hard way, I loaded them up, let them sit for a few days, went back to the range and VIOLA...NO ISSUES.

Not saying this could be the same thing you're experiencing, since you admitted to messing with your mag release, but it might be a culprit.

    Good luck finding your bug!

Both of my M&P 9's ran fine out of the box. No break in required.

Leave the mags loaded for about a week or two to loosen up the springs. My mag springs were pretty stiff when I got my M&P but never had any feeding issues or any issues at all.
