There is no law banning modifying guns (except into MGs, AWs, SBRs, or into other illegal configurations, etc.)

But things like changing calibers, barrel lengths, action type, nature of safeties, etc. is in no way violating any law.

However, such a modified firearm would most likely not be sellable to a CA FFL except for LEO sales, etc. - as it is no longer in the form in which it was "approved" (even though it was Rostered). It could only be PPT'd to another Californian, or sold to someone outside CA (thru his FFL, of course).

[If the modified gun were to have factory parts replacing the modified ones such that it reverted back to the shape in which the exemplar was tested/approved, then the above restrictions don't apply.]
So if someone changed to a different grip safety on a 1911, or thumb safety - it's no longer legal for the dealer to sell? (just askin') Even a different length barrel on a revolver, or a different barrel in a 1911?

    all the best,

    Mike
There are some people that it's just not worth engaging.

It's a muzzle BRAKE, not a muzzle break. Or is your muzzle tired?

Correct. Those parts weren't there during the drop test. The gun is tested and certified with a certain suite of componentry.

Even moving a part from a particular (Rostered, certified/drop-tested) S&W 1911 model over to, say, a particular (Rostered, certified/drop-tested) Springfield Armory 1911 model would render that latter firearm PPT only.

The dealer may have a defense if mod were non-obvious - there's some Harrott-style listing issues related to the Roster. But if a Rostered handgun has obvious mods/changes (other than grips/sights) it really should not go into regular FFL inventory or be transferred in from outside CA unless its as-certified status can be restored.

No need to dremel- just pull off the plate. Lock disabled- and you can re-install anytime if you want.

The ideal way would probably be to remove all that crap and fill on the holes on the side with glass bed, but I can'tbe bothered- the holes don't seem to hurt anything, or let in any extra dirt.
