I posted awhile back about the glock 23 asking opinions and what not, well i went and shot the glock 23 and the XD40 tonight, i ended up really liking the XD better, so my question is, are there as many accessories and after market parts avaliable. Is it as reliable as a glock? Any info is appreciated. Thank you

Can o Worms is about to be opened.
As far as "useful" accessories, plenty for both guns. If you want neat little slide end covers with playboy bunnies on them and crap like that, glock has more.
As far as reliability, my xd45 has been *very* reliable.Sandstorm Custom Rifle Slings : Custom Paracord slings

Like I said, plenty of the useful stuff. All the major manufactures of sights make them for both XD/Glock, same with holsters. Considering both are poly framed guns, the only grips you will find are stick on or sleeve type, and for both guns are readily available.
Parts of XD's are slightly harder to find, but Springfield has excellent, and very fast, service. If you want parts on hand, pistolgear.com has quite a decent selection.
Again, reliability is going to be a toss up.Sandstorm Custom Rifle Slings : Custom Paracord slings

I have both the glock model 23 and xd 40, both are very reliable and I've never had any problems with either one. My glock used to be my concealed carry gun until I got the xd 40 sub compact. Now that is my primary concealed and carry gun. I must confess that I have never shot any steel case ammo out of the xd, the glock shot anything and everything I loaded into it.Comment

I shoot an XD 40 for competition. I haven't come across anything I wanted and couldn't find for the XD. Mine has many upgrades and 30k rounds through it. It runs great. I know someone who cracked an XD frame, but it was after something like 70k rounds. It was also used in competitions.
bladetech is great for holsters and you can buy direct from them. I am a big fan of the dawson adjustable FO sights. I bought quite a bit from pistol gear as well.
It's pretty much Chevy vs. Ford. They are very similar and both well liked and both have an aftermarket. Pick the one that fits you best.He who dies with the most tools/toys wins

Dawson sights set into a Bomar cut that was machined into the slide.
trigger job by my gunsmith-3.25lbs 3/32" pre-travel, 3/32" to trigger break, and 3/32" over travel. That is just over 1/4" total movement on the trigger. I haven't held another XD or Glock with the same trigger quality yet. My mom's XD 9 is close but has more reset (done by same smith). The XD 40 triggers feel different from the XD 9 triggers. Mine is also a 2005 gun and my mom's is probably 2010.
Oversize mag release, pistol gear extended slide stop, pistol gear magwell and slam pads for mags, barsto 9mm conversion barrel hand fit by smith.
I am on the original recoil spring and am still running the original magazines plus 4 extras. The striker spring was replaced with a lighter one and possibly the spring in the trigger.
This gun has seen almost all light loads, so it may have helped to keep wear to a minimum. I don't recall having any feed or firing issues with factory ammo and the factory barrel.
The conversion barrel may not be as good as a dedicated 9mm gun, but it runs 99% or better for me. Same goes for using 40 cal mags with 9mm ammo, and reloading range brass.
I have gone as high as 10 of 70 or 6 of 30 people in a local non sanctioned match, and that is against Glock, 1911, 2011, CZ, open race guns, etc. And, the gun isn't the reason I didn't do better. People run guns from $400 to $1400 (rough cost of mine) to over $3,000.
I haven't found a pistol that fits my hand better than the XD. I find that I am more likely to miss my first target in a string or stage than the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th, when I shot steel challenge for the second time. I am fast out of the holster, but I don't always get the perfect hold, even when I do see the sights clearly. On the next shots it wasn't uncommon for me to not remember seeing the sights. Sometimes I go too fast to notice and other times I shoot from muscle memory and don't need to see the sights to hit a close target. Better shooters see the sights almost with the feeling of it being in slow motion. I do that sometimes. So it isn't exactly a great thing to not see the sights, but the good part is that the ergonomics of the gun are good enough for me to get the gun lined up without looking at the sights. After a huge number of rounds down range, I am also very familiar with the gun. I love the loaded chamber indicator and striker indicator as well. I don't rely on them, but I can easily feel and see the condition of the gun. If I had the option to have the gun without them, I would still choose to leave them as they are. They also don't look stupid like the LCI on my Ruger MkIII.
I am an XD fan boy and don't like Glocks, but will shoot one. I would love to have a 1911. I have a smith x frame and love it as well. If I needed to protect my life or score well in a game, I would pick up the XD.
I'm sure there are people who would say the same about Glocks as well.

I really like that, i am deffinatly going to pick one of these up for my 21st bday. Correct me if i am wrong but do you have a different grip safety?Dawson sights set into a Bomar cut that was machined into the slide.

I have an XD-40 4" Service that has been flawless. Just got a .357 Sig barrel for it from Springfield, and will likely get an aftermarket 9mm barrel as well. Three extra mags makes it an even five, so one box of ammo per reload.
It fits me like a glove (just like my CZ 75 SP-01 does), and puts 'em where I point it. What's not to love?

The grip safety is totally stock on my gun. The finish is worn off from being handled so much and from cleaning. The take down lever is also worn as is the slide stop. I did modify my mom's grip safety on her XD. I TIG welded some material to the center of it so that it is less curved. Her hand just did not activate it very well. The safety still works for herself and me, but just has a different shape.
My frame has slight wear to the texture. It looks normal, but feels smoother than a new XD. The other non stainless parts also have had a good portion of the black finish worn off. The stainless has light scratches from the holster. Overall, my gun still looks great and doesn't really appear to have a great deal of use. I do try to take care of it, but I don't treat it like a collectors item either. He who dies with the most tools/toys wins
