Once upon a time, one could walk into Napa Auto Parts and walk out with a rifle.

I've driven by MSI quite a few times and every time I tell myself I need to stop in there.

The first Colt AR-15 I ever saw in person was at a car parts store that sold some rifles too; California Parts and Equipment. The year was 1973.

True. Same with hardware stores. It's sad how much of Americana has been lost along with our liberties.

I'll have to check out MSi.

I used to be able to walk into Walmart and buy guns and ammo.

I've been in and out of SBR and had no issues. Nice everytime. I did my PPT transfer with them and had good service and they treated me as if I bought my gun there. As for SW, I've been there multiple times and felt as if unless I'm showing them $100 bills I'm not getting any service. I actually got glared at alot by their sales staff.

If you go in, see Ian or Lynn. Really nice folks..

With so many gun stores out there now, most everyone will price match. Sac Black Rifle has the best prices on Glocks, contrary to what Sportsmans Wherehouse will tell you , so I just asked if they'll sell for what SBR sells for, they say yes and off we go.

I like doing business with friendly people and SBR has not been that for me.
This is the first time I've seen MSI mentioned on here... They started as a corvette shop and changed things around a couple years ago. Both owners (Terry and Mark) are huge gun fans, and Mark is also a NRA certified trainer. And Lynn is my step-father.

Although, I am partial to SBR. I have always had great service there, and the staff has been more than helpful in answering all my (stupid) questions.

I totally agree. I understand they see lots of window shoppers but they have this nose in the air attitude when I go in there. I've purchased two guns and used them for price matching when I would've purchased them there..it's literally a left, a right and a left into their parking lot from my home. I can walk there in 5 minutes.

If you're LE at SBR then they treat you like a king but all others in my opinion don't get the red carpet.

I remember those days!! I had forgotten about that. I walked into the Napa Auto in Lakeport and bought .22 ammo with my mom when I was a kid. The good ole days!! lol

                Thanks for the nostalgia bud!

Yes Sportsman's warehouse does sell handguns, and their customer service is really good. In my experience the man helping me was very patient and friendly, he was able to answer all my questions and give some good advice as well.

Sacramento Black Rifle is a nice shop and I like the expansion that they have made to the place but their customer service does seem to need some work (Simple acknowledgments, such as greeting each customer and asking if we need help with anything goes a long way). Not that I have had a bad experience with SBR's customer service but I compare them with TDS Guns across town and from my personal experience I feel the customer service at TDS is better.

That said, when shopping around for a new firearm/accessories, I would definitely go to one of these three places =)

....And I am with you guys about MSI, I pass that place at least a couple times a week and every time I wanna just stop in and check the place out but I still haven't done that.

EDIT: I felt like just adding that it really depends on who you talk to as to what the quality of the customer service you get is like. I just got back from sportsman's warehouse and the guy I talked to at the gun counter was not very helpful and didn't seem to even want to talk with me about the products that I was inquiring about. For that reason alone I will not buy a gun from them in the future. I really miss living close to Bass Pro Shop.

Yep, SW sells handguns and does PPT's . When I did a ppt there a few weeks ago (as a buyer) they treated me great.

I bought my Benelli Super Vinci at SW. There are a few people that have ZERO people skills, and a few that do. The duy that helped me looked like Don Johnson, and was really nice. Pickup was a different story. It took them about an hour to get my gun and get out of there. It was pretty ridiculous.

Same thing with SBR not all the staff is pleasant. Some of them are really good and others not so much. I wonder if they get paid off commission because if they do I will make sure to buy from the people I like.

I've never had a bad experience at TDS. When it's really busy they don't seem too attentive, but when it's your turn they're awesome.

Checked out MSI yesterday gotta say its a really friendly place. I might end up getting my first handgun from them. Of course when I can decide on exactly what I want.

Hell, I even remember coast to coast hardware when they sold rifles, and I'm only 28.

The hardware store I worked at STILL sells ammo to this day.
