Wow, you guys both think I'm talking about the short reach trigger? Really? I guess after re-reading my post it does sound confusing. Here comes a wall-o-text to better explain what I should have said before...
Sig triggers have 4 points in their geometry. The DA resting point, the SA resting point, the reset point and the firing point. The resting points are where the trigger stays at "rest" when the firearm is not being touched. The reset point is the point at which the trigger must pass through after firing a shot before you can pull the trigger rearwards again in order to cause another shot to fire.
After the first shot, the reset point and the firing point are all that matters. You simply wiggle the trigger back and forth between those points to cause additional shots. You can hear (and feel) a positive "click" when a Sig trigger passes reset.
Sig's SRT moves the reset point closer to the firing point, without changing the other points. A short reach trigger wouldn't do that. A short reach trigger would move both the reset point and the firing point back the same distance, keeping the same distance between them.
The short reach trigger is for people with fingers that are too short to reach the double action pull. It does not fix "short stroking" the trigger when you are shooting at speed from the first reset point after the first shot, which is what I was talking about.
Some people (myself included) have a finger length such that it is natural to return the trigger to a point just shy of the normal reset point after firing a shot.
I agree that the Gray guns modification does not change the DA reach, and neither does the SRT. Both are about the reset point, and the main reason to move that around is to avoid the short stroking issue.
Also, to those reading HighLander51's post, that gun has a competition trigger, which is a completely different animal. Competition triggers generally reduce the overtravel (distance you can pull the trigger after shot goes off), the pretravel (distance from SA resting point to firing point) and the spring weights.
The SRT is actually more "sloppy" in overtravel and pretravel then then stock trigger, and it has the same pull weights.
