They need to know how to use it. And I'm sorry, a firearm is a MINUSCULE tool in an officers tool box. The fixation on this board of police needing to be super tacticool and know how to handle every firearm known to man is just stupid, not to mention unrealistic.

That is unrealistic. But i feel like he should know what kind of pistol he's issued. That's not unrealistic. No one said that police should know how to operate every firearm known to man. But they should be at least prorfficient with the one he uses to protect his life and the lives of others. Ignorance is bliss, but not when it comes to firearms they're issued.
