    LC9 Owners - Question

I have an LC9 and I'm thinking of selling it. It's a nice little gun but I like Glocks better but I'm a bit undecided.

The question I have is does anyone have trouble engaging the slide release with your thumb with a magazine in the seated in the well?

My gun is relatively new (maybe still stiff??). When I'm done with one magazine and put in another, I have to rack the slide back, disengage the slide release then release the slide to load a round into the chamber. I can't just press down on the slide release to engage the slide like I can on my G19.

I was wondering if this is something that changes over time or if that's just the way it is?

    Thanks!

Most people will tell you should be pulling the slide back to release and not using the slide lock as it is just that, a lock and not a release. I am sure that it will get easier with time.

In a defensive situation, that isn't realistic IMO. Is there time for that? Doesn't seem like it to me.

I don't know that I've handled a semi auto where I couldn't engage the slide release to rack the slide forward other than this LC9..all my glocks, the PT 140 I just sold, my S&W 59 and every M1911 all were able to engage the slide release to rack the slide forward. Many semi's rack the slide forward when a magazine is seated in the well without any manual manipulation at all.

That said, if I need more than 8 rounds..I guess I should be calling in close air support

Mine is getting easier the more I shoot it. It is one tough puppy when new like you say. I also have the Galloway trigger mod in mine, totally changed the pistol in a positive way.

I have owned an LC9. If you look closely at the slide lock, its not designed to be a slide release. Look at it closely and you will see what I mean.

I believe the manual also states this as well.

As for being able to do it with other semi-autos. This isn't another semi auto. Its an LC9. It does what it was designed to do. If you don't agree with it then its not for you.

OK I just reread the last paragraph and I sounds like a d*ck. But what I wrote stands. Sell it if its not for you.

            cliffs:

We bought two with the intention of carrying them.

            1. Slide release was very stiff.
            2. Unintentional mag drops on both (deal breaker)

Sold them for a Kahr CM9 and CW9.

Yeah I noticed the mag drops in my new holster yesterday. Such a nice frame but I just feel it has too much other stuff that make it a little less desirable.

I thought perhaps I was being too picky hence the question.
              Thanks!

True. Look at where the "slide hold open", as ruger calls it, engages the slide. You'll see that the notch is damn near, if not perfectly, vertical. If it was meant to be a slide release that notch would be sloped a bit so that resistance to pulling the lever down would be lessened. Some guys have muscled it down and wore a bevel into it so that theirs works better as a slide release. I don't see anything wrong with doing that, but it wasn't designed that way.

That's what I've noticed as well..it's very square there and no rounded edge. It's a very different design for a semi auto and honestly I'm not sure I understand why they did it that way..could it be another safety modification or..???

In a defensive situation it will be far easier to grab the slide then manipulate the slide "release" lever, does not require as much in terms of fine motor skills. In any event, regardless of your preference, training is key.

On mine I just pull back and release (slingshoot style), I also installed the Galloway Stainless Steel rod and springs.. What a change..

So true. In this instance however I think I'll just go all Glock and sell it the LC9. Glocks are less complicated and the way they operate is what I'm familiar with.

It will make training easier and seamless.

I wish I could alter any of my carry weapons but I can't. Galloway triggers was my first thought but my county won't allow it..

G27 is a thick little brick, but it's stupid simple.

I've got a G19 and a G26 in jail till Friday. I've got an appointment setup with the county to substitute the LC9 with both of them in addition to my SP101..

LOL thick brick! That is a great description. They aren't my first choice aesthetically but they are so damn reliable and the parts are virtually everywhere.

                            I would like a Sig and a 1911 someday but not a priority..well maybe

Take it from a d*ck. You are better off with a smaller version of a gun you are comfortable with then a brand new system.

That is why I sold my LC9. I am getting a g26 to be consistent with the G19 that I have gotten really used to and proficient with.
