    SW model 586-1

    Hi...
I am thinking of buying this gun...anyone have issues with 586-1's? I know about the M-Stamp for mods and this one doesn't have it.

Trying to get a grip on pricing this summer for these models also...
    any help?
    Thanks

    Asking is $599

Lots of people never bothered to send their no dash or dash 1 back to the factory and never noticed the difference.

Pricing depends on condition and accessories. The 586-1 was mass produced but they aren't that easy to find in CA. For $600, I would expect it to be in near mint condition with the original grips. If it's not mint, then it's nothing special (collector wise but they're great guns) and should be priced accordingly.
Check back later for a witty comment.

I disagree with the above post. If it's a good condition pre lock 586-1, then $600 is a very fair price and I'd buy it in a second. These are some of the nicest revolvers ever made. I hold them up there next to pythons. The triggers on these old revolvers are unreal. So is the accuracy.

A few years ago I picked up a 586 no dash from a buddy at work who inherited it. It didn't have the M on it. It shot 38spl fine but when I shot full powdered 357 loads it jammed. The primers backed out locking the cylinder. I sent it to S&W and they fixed it for free. Even paid for shipping both ways. But it did take about 6 weeks.

So if you pick up this 586 you're looking at you may want to send it in for the mod. FWIW, I was shooting very powerful 357 loads. I loaded them myself. 158gr LSWC's over 14.5gr of 2400. A man's load.

I've got a matched set of 4" 586's made in 1986. Nothing special, just plain jane 586's. They are the oldest guns I ever had that I never shot. I totally forgot I had them after I got out of the Marine Corps in 1991 and so they sat in my uncles basement for a little over 20 years with the rest of my prior lifes crap still in the original boxes. I found them in a box of crap I packed away back in 1987 right before I went in. They were perfect, no rust or condition issues of any kind. Tore them down, cleaned & oiled swapped out the perfect condition wood grips for nice comfy Hogues and shot them finally, 25 years later.

Wonderful guns, never looked at the value. They will never be for sale, so who cares.

Horrible deal. Umm, where was this being sold? Just kidding.

This is a gun for life. If it strikes your fancy, go for it. I bought a prelock 686 and what a fine gun. Everytime I look at it or show it to somebody, they are floored by how nice they gun is.

But, the 586 is no slouch - the bluing is really incredible.

I bought a 586 no dash, no "m" (in near new condition) with the orginal grips for $550 from my LGS back in March. Asking price was $599, but I'm a regular who spends alot of $ in this store so the owner cut me a small break. I would have happily paid the $599.

The trigger on mine is very smooth, and the single action is outsanding. If its in nice shape $599 is not a bad price. They are a bit hard to find here in CA, so if you pass you might not see another one for awhile.

Here's my no dash. I got a rather rare one in tactical flat black. They made some flat black ones for some police departments at one time.

I love S&W wheel guns and own several, but a 4" 586 is one I have lusted over for some time. Here in Ca they should fetch $650 for a minty one... I would pay that.
