What confuses me is how you are considering both Glock and XD for different calibers. Have you even held the weapons in your hands? I know of few people who like both. It would seem to me that you would decide on a platform, then a caliber.

But hey, what do I know?

40 vs 45, cake vs pie, Ford vs Chevy ... all just random people's opinions that should mean nothing to you. The only answer is to go shoot them both; understand the ammo cost difference; decide what you want to use it for then pick the one you like best and suits your needs. I like pie.

Flip a coin they are really one in the same, well not quite but you'll never notice a difference.

I own a Springfield XD40 Sub-Compact and I love it!......I almost bought it in 9mm because all I keeped hearing about the 40 cal is how snappy is... Changed my mind at the last minute before I picked it up. Had to wait another 10 days, no big deal.

My two cents,,,,unless you got wrist like a girl you should have no problem staying on target...............Happy shooting

I like the idea of knowing what you'd like to have when you're all finished collecting. I like all the calibers.

But having, 9mm, 40 cal & 45 is a big waste to me; I'd rather have 9mm & 45 or settle right in the middle and go with only 40 cal. With a nod towards having 9mm & 45 Cal.

As I'd like to purchase and store as few types of ammo as possible.

.40 is the most popular LE round today. Its mostly a Glock .40 or to narrow it down its a Glock 22

There are many threads here and on other forums that try compare .40 to .45

The problem is that You need to compare GUN to GUN , not .40 to 45

In Your case, I would take G23 over XD Service .45

              They are both good calibers.

On duty I carry a G22 GEN4 with 15 and 22rd magazines . I tried and sold an HK45 full size beacause I do not shoot it as well as I shoot my Glocks. Not because I like .40 better than 45

              I would take a SIG220 in .45 over a a SIG 239 in .40. Because I shoot .220 .45 better than .239 in 40.

My target 1911's are all in 45ACP.

              Hope this helps.

                Well...

The Glock G23 is the absolute center of the X-ring for a handgun.

They should pass a Law (before they turn America back into a Constitutional Republic) that requires EVERY Citizen to have one... or pay a fine.

                Just feed it this:

All I own is .45 but the .40 will be a little cheaper and in the coming months before elections if there is a hoarding frenzy the .40 might be easier to acquire.
To me the .45 ammo was much more scarce than the 9mm and 40 cal in the last shortage.

Come on the answer is BOTH, why would you just have one.

Or I could play the 9mm groupies and say they are both over rated a modern 9mm hollow point will do everything a 122mm sabot round will do and it's cheaper and the magazines hold more rounds, well at least in other states they do. So yah just get a 9mm for sure.

Op: ^^ Also, identify what the platform and caliber will be used for. As you know there are multiple platforms for both calibers. So frankly, it sounds good for all of us to say... dude, shoot as many guns in both and see how you feel. The reality is that's expensive. Hence, do it in the most cost effective way possible. Maybe, borrow your friend's guns, etc. See, if they'll give 10-15 rds.. you know the deal.

All that said, I pick the G23. I like the challenge of shooting this platform and the cost and performance of .40S&W.

ps. I recognize the quality of makes in .40. there's a bunch. And I am enamored with choices in .45ACP. G21 and 1911 to name just two.

Why dont u finally get a revolver. I mean u have 3 semis. Why get a forth?

And if u want killing power, 44mag is >>>> than 45acp or 40sw.

Enjoy them all. In handguns, I own. 22, 38, 357 9mm,40,45 and 44 magnum. I like them all. The one on my belt for the next 10 hours is a Glock 22 Gen4 with 22rd mags full of HST's.
