    SIG P250 update

I was talking to the SIG rep at the Turners Corona grand opening last friday. I asked him about the P250 and when it was being summited for testing. He stated that it is in testing now and hopefully they will start selling them in about 4 months. Hoepfully he is correct.

That was propably Randy. He's the Western States Sales Manager. He was at my shop week before last and had one of those elusive P250s with him. We got a chance to fondle and drool all over it. He said the same to us about timeline to get them out to us. When they do, we'll be carrying them.

So the P250 is a SIG with a mag disconnect feature?

        Please excuse my ignorance.

When I first heard and read about the P250 I was completely underwhelmed. DAO trigger made it DOA for me. It is not a "sexy" gun.

I just played with one last week and I must confess it felt good in my hand, pointed well and EVEN THOUGH it has a DAO/DAK trigger, it has one sweet trigger. Smoothest I've ever felt on a Sig. I may have to adjust my opinion.

I'm not all that interested in the P250. For plastic Sigs, I like the Sig Pro line.

A Sig P250 is a new breed of gun. I know the tern "Innovative" has been thrown around about every new thing from toilet plungers with ribbed handles, and especially to firearms, but this truly is innovative.

The gun seems like a new Glock-style pistol at first glance, but it's better.

The part you are used to calling the "frame" (the entire magazine well, grip, trigger group, dust cover, and serialized metal strip embedded in the plastic) is no longer the actual "firearm". There is a metal sub-assembly which drops into the polymer grip/magazine well/dust cover, which is the serialized part (the "firearm"). What this means is that, after purchasing one complete firearm, you can change several things about the gun without buying a new "firearm". Things like caliber conversions have been done before, as have things like interchangeable grip panels, but nothing like this.

Changeable things (as advertized, not all are available at this point in time):

              Caliber:
              9mm, .357 Sig, .40 S&W, .45ACP

Grip width (the entire frame is replaced, not just pieces):
              Thin, Regular, Wide

              Barrel length
~5", ~4", and maybe one smaller size

              Frame size:
              Full, Compact, Sub-compact

The only drawback I see is the magazine disconnect, which I hope can be eliminated after purchase, and a long DAO trigger pull. I'm excited.

Modular engineering compromises are by nature compromises so that it can be more flexible... I have to wonder how stout the P250's very flexible modular nature is in long term reliability and accuracy next to a Sig Pro or P22x.

I'm not saying it's not good, just that inherently, the design has to make compromises.

My understanding is, that the benefit of this interchanability is to armories of LEO and .mil- The average gun guy will just buy a pistol that fits their hand, the P250 allows for one serial # to be on the books, but be able to be issued to nearly any sized person.

That said, I dont see the flexablity offered as an engineering comromise. Feature like interchanable bbls and grip panels are common on many lines, and well proven. The real new thing with this gun is the steel sub-frame. It looks to have the same design philosophy of an AR, it is the load bearing element, so stresses transfered to the interchangable plastic frame are likely low.

This pistol looks good. It may save me money in the long run. That's four guns in one.

I'm happy to see Sig Sauer making the effort - This will be the first new SIG California will have seen in a long time.

                      Good for them!

Is a magazine disconnect like a trigger lock? Can The owner do with it what he likes after he purchases it?

I don't know the technicality of the gun, but yes you can disable the feature if you choose.

A magazine disconnect won't allow the gun to fire without a magazine in it. I know on some designs, you can take the mag disconnect out, the P250 with the disco has not be released to the public yet, so I don't know if it can be removed. I hope it can.

Good news. Now if only Sigarms can make their Elite series CA compliant and listed. I know, I know but I can dream.

Sig needs to make a 10mm version (like the G20). Or maybe their 220 in 10mm . I would buy that in a heartbeat.
