Like your Kahr?

Are there any more KAHR owners out there that think they are great guns. The PM40 is what I carry most of the time. I'm thinking about picking up a P9 soon. Any thoughts on it?

Love my K9. It's very accurate (to about 15 yards for me) and recoil is mild except for the +p+ rounds. I got it used and it hasn't had any failures in the400 rounds I've put through it. A buddy of mine got his PM40 and we both tried it out at the range. We had FTF with each mag so we both gave up after 100 rounds. Recoil on the PM40 was a bit violent for me (we were firing 155 gr fmj). He was going to give Kahr a call to see what's up with his PM40.

Prefer steel K series Kahrs

I have one Kahr - the all steel MK9 model - and it has worked perfectly through hundreds of rounds at the range. It is very similar to the polymer PM9 model except for frame material and weight. After researching these guns on the Internet I decided to avoid the polymer Kahrs and go with the steel.

what carry ammo do you use in your kahrs? i have a k9 elite and it chokes on speer gold dots -- dottie at kahr said to try something else. any recommendations?

I have a PM40 (up for sale on this site). I have carried it almsot every day for since I bought it in 2005.
It an awsome carry piece. Forget puney 380's, 22's or 25's. Get a Kahr arms in 9mm or 40. They are smaller on average and pack a real punch against someone who is out to kill you.

I carry only Corbon powerball 135 grn loads through mine and have faith they will do the job if need be.

Yeah, its a kicker when you shoot it. Make sure you have a good grip on it and the extended mags come in handy for a little more to hold onto. Personally I carry it with the flush mag in the well and 2 extended mags (one in each front pants pocket). Its so small that it will disapear when you carry it.

The only reason I'm selling mine is that I am no longer carrying it as a back up gun (truely excells in this department) and I'm looking for a shorter grip frame 45 like the XD45 compact for CCW now.

I have a original K40 in blue, that I love; great shooting little pistol, very accurate and the all steel frame really sucks up the recoil. Only complaints would be that the finish on the first generation blue/black guns does not wear well. I think that's probably why they went to an all stainless product line. Other complaint (and it's not really a complaint at all just an observation) is the long trigger reset: I'm used to shooting Glocks with a relatively short reset and it usually take a couple of magazines worth of ammo with the Kahr before I start hitting where I want.

I like my PM9 just fine - it's my favorite of all my sub-compacts. Mine digests Gold Dots, no problem.

Love my MK9 and MK40. They are a little heavier than the PM models, but they are both very reliable and very thin which makes them easy to carry.

I love my PM9, it's an awesome carry gun and it eats Federal HST 147-grain all day long with no issues. Surprisingly accurate for such a little guy!

I don't have one yet, yet being the key word. I haven't decided if I'm going to get the PM40 or PM45. I fell in love with Kahrs the first time I shot a PM9.

I've read quite a bit about Kahrs lately. Here are my impressions: All steel owners love their models. Almost all MK and K series owners are very happy and report great reliability and functionality. Very occasionally you hear an MK40 or K40 user report a problem, but the MK9 and K9 complaints are almost non-existent. The draw back is that they can be a bit heavy for some users, especially MK owners who wanted to pocket carry.

The polymer models really push the boundaries of small and lightweight guns in combat calibers. Most P9 users are very happy but there are slightly more complaints than the all steel models. PM9 users are quite the mixed bag. There have been a lot of complaints about this model and there are many stories about owners having to send their PM’s back to Kahr multiple times. Many owners give up on Kahr and their PM's during this process - they want the gun to work out of the box for the money they paid. I can't blame them. Everyone wants to love the PM9 and the ones who have received good ones, or have been able to deal with a work in progress, are very happy. Many people cite excellent accuracy and reasonable recoil for a weapon this size. Obviously the size and weight make it easy to take just about everywhere. The Desantis Nemesis pocket holster is a very popular method of carry.

The P40 and PM40 owners are few and far between but basically seem to have more problems then their 9mm counterparts. Some people just don't like the recoil and find it hard to practice with regularly. Of course they have their fans. I'm more of a 9 or 45 guy myself. I prefer the extra round in the 9mm models so I don't read as much about the 40's. If you are buying a polymer, I strongly suggest you do not buy used and if it's a PM, the latest serial numbers start with the letters VD. Up until recently users have reported barrel peening and it looks like Kahr has fixed this after a mass recall.

The P45 and PM45 are new, but the few people who have them seem to really like them. People who own one of these after trying the Glock 36 seem to prefer the Kahr (very limited data on this one and the G36 is a different topic to say the least).

You should know that Kahr has recently changed their warranty policy from lifetime to 5 years. Many users report that they have problems loading the mags to capacity + 1 and have to load one less round than advertised. The Kahr manual instructs the user to use the slide stop to chamber a round. Using the overhand or slingshot method to chamber does not work reliably for most users (I know this is true for the polymers, but I am not certain about all of the other Kahr models). This puts off a lot of people who have been taught a certain way.

I've been trying to convince myself to buy a PM9 for quite a while now and if I had excess funds, I definitely would. Since that's not the case, I might go with a S&W snub nose for half the price to tide me over while I wait to see how the new owners of the PM9 are feeling about their purchase. I might end up with an MK9, which I have no reservations about other than the extra weight. After a Glock 30(SF if available), the K9 or one of Kahr's polymer .45's may do battle for my hard earned cash.
