1911 Flat wire recoil spring feedback...

So I just received my new Wilson Combat Flat wire recoil spring with guide rod. It is the 1st flat wire I have purchased. Just wanted to see if any of you have any feedback on it. Thank you all for any feedback.

I'd like to see a photo if you would please. I've never heard of using a flat wire in a 1911. I assume you mean one similar to what I see in Glocks. Does it have a spring force rating like 18# (18 pounds)? I'd be interested in following your experience with it.

      It's a 17lb spring according to Wilson Combat's site.

Interesting -- and you have to change the guide because the I.D. of the spring is smaller than a round wire spring.

Wow, I have not seen that in a 1911 before. Sigs and HK's are the only place i have seen this. But I need to ask, What is the point? My guess is another product to sell or is there an advantage to this design?

That's because it IS a Glock spring.

It is definitely not a glock spring.

Nighthawk has this same set up on some of their pistols.

It was when they came out last year. It's still a 17 lb flat spring with the same guide rod diameter as a Glock but it looks like they added two coils.

                      Compacts take a Glock 19/23 spring...make sense?

They are OEM on my Sig 1911 TTT. My SA and RIA were traditional springs. Too me it seems softer to compress, but I've not noticed anything else.

I've got one on my Wilson - I don't feel any difference when shooting, it's just supposed to last a long time. Normal spring you're supposed to change about every 5k rounds.

                              Length?

Is it shorter fully compressed compared to a normal spring?

It may just give you a little bit more travel to pull the slide back to release the slide stop when using a shok buffer on some 1911s.
