I realize that this thread is quite a few years old, but I would be very interested in buying the aforementioned part, if you're still interested in making/selling these. I think #1 looks like the optimum design for fixing the problem.

When this thread was created we weren't gun owners yet. Wife and I bought couple of firearms in 2013 (newbies) and ended up selling them. We quickly replaced them with Sig. Fortunately for us we don't have problem like others have.

This is a good option for those who don't want to modify their grip position.

I have this problem with Sigs. I just bend the tab in some more toward the grip and for me anyhow, it helps. You need to remove the lever though and then jig it in a bench vise so you bend only where you need and not where you don't need. It is a very stiff part.

The 224 lever is smaller and should help anyone who for some reason has this problem. I have been shooting P series Sigs for more than 20 years now and have never had a problem.

What's the benefit of this over just getting the P224 slide stop like the Legions have?

Great idea, the Sig slide release is one of the main reasons I don’t own or use a Sig. It is more then the bad shape of the slide release lever, it’s the placement that is the problem.

The decocker works as well. I am unsure if the mag release will fit, but I do know that the P224 TDL will not work. There was a SigTalk member who had his TDL machined to add the checkering.

These are common "upgrades" that some folks add to try and mimic the Legion series.

The p224 slide stop and decocker will "legionize" a regular P226. I shoot 1911's more than any other pistols so when I transition to non-1911 pistols, my thumb will instinctively go to the thumb safety area and engage the slide lock (p226). The 'legionized' p226 solves that issue.

I recently changed my grip to 'high, thumbs forward' (I was watching Adaptive Handgun Techniques) and I don't see myself going back to what I was doing before. Recoil control is so much better. Just my preference, whether or not it causes new issues.

I ordered a P224 slide catch lever that I'm going to try. I'm worried that there might not be enough relief on the E2 grip of my 229; I've heard many conflicting reports as to whether it works as is or not. Some people recommend shaving material off the grip to make it fit better (the Legion has a cut out for this on the Grip Panel). I can see that some of the other G10 grips (SIG/Hogue) also have something of this nature. I just don't want to damage anything on the inside, or create different reliability issues if the 224 slide stop is getting jammed up by the shape of the grip when it shouldn't be.

Interestingly, I called SIG to ask. They were very responsive, but I got some bizarre answers from two different people, some of which I doubt the accuracy of:

"We don't make a smaller slide-stop."
"We don't allow Legion parts on non-Legion guns as policy."
"The non-Legion de-cocker won't work with a legion style slide stop."
"Installing a 224 part on a 229 will void your warranty."
"Any disassembly other than field stripping will void your warranty."
"The Legion slide stop only fits on the Legion grips."
"Try crossing your thumbs instead, more like a revolver."

One of the guys said that he personally can't get any classic line pistols to lock back, but he just lives with it because he likes everything else about them.

I suppose the advantage of cutting down the regular one would be that you could be more sure that it would fit, seeing as you're only removing material off the back. The 224 one seems to move material forward and down diagonally.

I'll maybe try some function tests later this week if the part arrives and report back.
