Sig Sauer modified slide release lever.

Just checking if their might be some interest, I know some people have issues with sigs not locking after the last round due to the factory slide stop lever when using the thumbs forward grip. Im planning on making a few modified types and was wondering if anyone would be interested in one. The only shop i have seen that does this charges $85 to modify your own part and charges extra to refinish it. I plan on buying parts to do this to, so instead of modifying your part you would get a new one to swap out with your old one. If i make them for others i plan to charge $65 for the modified refinished mag-catch lever. Of course you guys can do this yourself for cheeper but if any of you are interested let me know. Ill post a few pics below of modified shapes i was thinking about. Photo#1 seems like the better choice of the 3 to help solve this problem.

I'm a lefty so the only time I get this is when I shoot off hand. I'm still pretty fast with a tap rack, locked back reload... I have 14 guys to train on the p226, 13 right handed, in the coming weeks. I'm going to tag this thread to see who has this and how well it works for them.

It would be interesting to see how many if any out of them have this issue. I personally have never had the problem and i shoot right hand but ive heard alot of people complain about it. Its one of the main complaints ive seen for sigs.

This is precisely one of the main reasons why I'm trading off my P220.

I might be interested. I just got my 226 not too long ago and had that problem when I took it out to the range for the first time. I'm gonna take it out again pretty soon to try it one-handed and maybe with some heavier ammo. I was running Speer Lawman 115, which is lead free. It may have contributed to the problem.

Here's a video by Bruce Gray that helps explain how grip and thumb placement can help prevent issues of slide lock.

Have you tried sourcing the slide release lever from an X5 All Around? In case you were not familiar, this is what it looks like:

Ahh yes I'll certainly be making a modification like straykillers to my P226. I've had problems with the slide locking back probably 80% of the time with P226. Its frustrating because I love almost everything else about the Sig but the slide release suck.

For reference I grip as high as possible with my thumbs laying in parallel pointing almost straight forward along the left side of the gun. Basically the magpul dynamics semi-auto grip if that helps. With this grip my right thumb lays directly on the slide release.

I'll probably just remove the slide release from the lower and dremel it down to a smaller size since it doesn't look like that would be very hard. I'll let you guys know

                    yay first post!

The Magpul Dynamics semi-auto grip, that's a hoot. The thumbs forward grip has been around a lot longer that Magpul has.

I am a Sig shooter an have fallen victim to the slide not locking back. I have tried to do the grip mod talked about in the video, it goes well until I spend some time behind my 1911, then it all goes to hell I have modified the lever on all my Sig's now it's a little nub that you still can use but you got to go looking for it. I really only use it when cleaning the gun or to lock back the slide with no mag in the gun. I have trained myself to rack the slide after replacing the mag not using the slide release. Why rely on fine motor skills to find that little button, even the stock one is small.
If you want change you have to put in your 2 cents, you can't just sit on the sidelines and whine.

i agree completely. id rather just train myself to rack the slide since that works 100% if the time but ill probably just go ahead and give this a try

^^ Totally agree! I'm gonna start doing that during my next shooting session.

While I understand the frustration of the unintentional slide lock, the modifying of the slide lock tab to make it less obtrusive and less likely to be hit by your thumbs could cause you a problem with a type 3 malfunction. Should this type of malfunction occur under stress, fine motor skills can diminish and a smaller tab will be more difficult to engage and make bringing your weapon to slide lock more difficult.

Thumb placement (right thumb over left) and practice is the best solution. However, as Paperchasin posted (thanks for the picture), the slide catch lever on the X5s are a little different in that, while they are same size as the standard 226, they extend from the frame in a more outward direction and may help with issues of premature slide lock while still giving enough surface area for purchase when locking the slide manually.

Just to make it clear to all i don't have this problem, never had. i have seen a lot of people complaining and struggling with the problem however. i dont believe that a smaller slide release would make it any more difficult to operate in a stressful situation there are plenty of guns that have much smaller levers that the sig. The key would be if you have a modified lever to train with it
