    80% AR Pistol Build

I'm going to get some 80% lowers tomorrow and going to finish them at my work. I just want to make sure I know everything before I do it.
    1. Buy the 80% lower.
    2. Mill out the rest of the lower.
    3. But together lpk and bb.
    4. Add 0 round mag. sled.
    5. Put a pistol upper with length less than 16 in.
    6. Take out 0 round sled, and replace with 10 round mag.
    Missing anything?
And it doesn't need to be registered?

Between #2 and #3, I would take it somewhere to be hard coat anodized (they'll have to be an FFL unless you keep an eye on it the entire time) or ceracote it at home or whatever. I suppose you could leave it bare aluminum if you wanted.

AR15 pistol is not on the roster, therefore it needs to be created as a single shot exemption.

How do you prove that you actually did #4 before you put in the ten round mag? Take a picture? Make someone prove that you did not do it?

            Just curious..

You do it to comply with the law.

If you just put in a 10 round magazine you have just manufactured an un-safe non-rostered handgun in CA.
                Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

But you don't need any proof. Right?

Right. Just the warm fuzzy you get by knowing you did it right.

I'm going to do a piston driven upper, so i wont need a buffer tube.

There is no requirement for a pistol buffer tube. Any buffer tube will work. That being said, I would put a rivet through a carbine tube if I were to use one, to prevent a stock from being added later. But there is no reason not to use an A1 rifle tube with a pistol gusset. It is a couple of inches longer than a "pistol" tube, but no different in shape than many of the ones marketed as such. And as the OP noted, there is no need for a tube at all if you go the piston route.

It does not need to be registered. Some say you should register it because Ca has laws on the books about unreg'd handguns being used in crimes...

Is a bullet button required once it is a pistol?
