pretty nice gun. made on original us tooling... by filipinos... get one, change some springs, get some lapping compound on the slide and cycle it ~1000 times and you got a solid little 1911.

I've heard nothing but good things and I just ordered a couple of tactical's on Wednesday. I can wait to get them out to the range with the wife.

I don't know about tooling and cast frames and "poor quality" or whatever, but I can tell you that you mine shoots very accurately (LOL, when other people shoot it!) and the trigger is very nice.

Get one, mod it up, have fun!

I can't say how good they are YET! I just broke mine out of jail on Tuesday and haven't had a chance to shoot it. After cleaning all the massive amounts of filipino oil on it from the factory and throwing on a Hogue grip I can say it seems very sound. I agree the finish doesn't really stack up to the more expensive 1911s but its not bad by any means. Overall I think I am really going to enjoy it.

I bought it because I wanted a good in-expense, not cheap, 1911 for shooting thousands of rounds through that I did not mind getting a few idiot scratches on as well. According to the masses the RIA tactical fits that bill.

Here is my pic with no rounds fired yet. I have 300rds of 45 and 9 mags ready to take to the range this weekend. I can't wait.

May be the CNC machines were bought from US. Armscor does not use old Colt machinery. At least according to Armscor customer service.

As for some smith won't work on the frame. It is true for all casted frames. Cast frames are harder compared to forged (not stronger, just harder. Due to metal grain structural) so it will burn out smith's tool bits unless they use carbide. I have heard some smith won't work on them to save their tools.

Anyone know of any good aftermarket night sights for RIA Tacticals? I've heard their Novak cut is not a standard cut? Anyone can confirm? I've read Dawson Precision is pretty good. Is there much grinding/filing that need to be done?

Or has anyone just put some bright nail polish on the front sight to bring out the contrast?

The only downside (and it isn't even a downside for 99%) of the cast frame is you can't go too high up the power scale.

Something like a .460 Rowland conversion is off-limits.

Which you probably weren't going to do anyway.

They are great. Just don't get the GI version; the sights on it suck. Make sure you get the tactical one that has novak sights. It does actually get really smooth after a couple hundred rounds, and the accuracy is pretty legit.

My coworker picked one up a couple months back and finally got around to shooting it the other day. Had a great grip and trigger but the safety was a bit stiff. Didnt have a rail and had the fiber optic front site.

Was insanely accurate but had failures to feed the first round and then eveey 4 or 5 rounds the rest of the night. He had Winchester from walmart and was using Wilson Combat magazines. Think that was the issue since the follower wanted to dip down far to easilt.
                                Great gun
