So I wanted to get my shooting iron back before i told my.story . I was out in the desert doing my thing with.my p2000 40sw . No.mag dumps , no speed reloads just casual shooting. When it felt like a fire cracker went off in my hand . The noise/feel was ...larger than normal so immediately set down the pistol and did a hand
From a older post .40s/w failure.
Was using Federal.
Do you still have the brass case?

Reloads????
I have 3, 100 round, sealed bags of 9mm that was given to me. The guy told me they're gun show reloads. I shot one bag of the stuff without issue, now I.m having second thoughts. Ammo is from the early 80's.
Thankfully you weren't seriously injured.

Don’t use those. They’re not worth blowing up your gun and possibly injuring yourself over.👍 1Comment

I had a similar thing happen to my G36. Wrote Glock, they told me to send it in and they repaired it completely under warranty, no cost to me.

I will never use reloads. Not worth the risk. Hell, even new, factory ammo can sometimes blow up a gun. No, no, no.Let us not pray to be sheltered from dangers but to be fearless when facing them. - Rabindranath Tagore

In my case (G36) I did know who did the reloading but I did not know how careless he was. I learned the hard way (he was shooting my G36 at the time it blew up).

First off, 40 S&W +P does NOT have a SAAMI specification. Stock firearms are tested to SAAMI specifications. You are on your own when using ammo outside of those specification.
Secondly, Glocks are know to have an unsupported 40S&W chamber. This is particularly problematic using reloads as the bulge after each firing will lead to case failure. That's why most people run an aftermarket barrel that has a fully supported chamber. Using round with fast powder or have higher chamber pressures is also an issue.👍 6Comment

That's not +P, that more than +P. Quite a bit more. Modern handguns are proofed to overpressure and won't just fail catastrophically with +P even if the overpressure damages them slowly.
Are you sure there was no obstruction in the barrel? If you have more rounds, you might want to pull the bullet and measure both the bullet and the powder. The shape of the powder and the weight will give you an idea of what it is.sigpicNRA Benefactor MemberComment
