Gun shops are a dying breed, but some hold on tenaciously. In the Fresno area, the choices are limited. Speaking of limited, don't even bother with Fresno Firearms, Ltd. The owner is rude and obnoxious. I digress..

My business is sorta similar to the small gun shop business in that I provide a service. When people come to me with an issue, they are paying me to provide a service. Same with gun shops. I am somewhat familiar with firearms and I generally know how to get what I want. I know that the local gun shop has overhead, as do I, and that his time is valuable, as is mine. While on some items, I can get deals online or at gun shows, when I want a certain gun or item it is worth a few more dollars to let my gun shop guy handle it for me. It's just smart business.

Often, if I'm bucks up, I'll drop by my favorite gun shop and buy a gun or something just to pass on some business. I stopped by Breco the other day with no idea I would buy a SW M&P. But I did because it was a good deal, and I wanted to pass along some business. Rob is a great guy and has always done me right.

I'd say that if you are really into guns you will need to have a dealer that is "your guy". Find one you can work with and do him right.

If you feel you can talk a gun down, gofor it. It doesn't hurt to ask. The worst they can do is say no.

I had never haggle on a gun before, I guess I'm that type of shopper if the price tag not interesting me I'll just walk away. I wonder how many deal I missed or how many sale my local shop missed. I just don't like haggling, even when I was buying my car last year, I pick Scion mainly because there will be no room for haggle.

I might start asking around from now on, like many of you say, they can always say no.
