Bought my CZ P-01 used at Turner's for $400. I didn't think about trying to get the price down, I just snatched it up.

Always, Always try to negotiate.... You will be surprised at the discount that 99% of the times you will get... It is just like buying a car...

yes, negotiate, unless the price is very, very good and there is someone else eyeing it (or something like that).

I only deal I was ever able to get was to get a box of ammo thrown in with a display gun.

I'm guess salesmen don't take me very seriously because of my age. I'll try harder next time.

There's always some wiggle room, but I always tell folks to not get greedy. "Store credit" I've found is best built over time. Don't beat them up too much and be a regular customer and you'll surprised at the deals you'll get. My guy before he shut down once gave me a 10/22 since he knew I was gearing up for the STC. My family and I had been shopping with him for over 10 years.

Just remember, they have to keep the lights on somehow and a little extra cash to keep a local store in business (if only to piss off anti-gun people) is a cheap investment.

Yep. Can usually save a few bucks, get some ammo or a case or grips. May not save much at times but makes me feel better. And, you'd be surprised that most shops will deal a bit on used ... and new.

I always ask "can you do any better on the price?" and "any discount for cash?" It is their store, all they can say is 'no'. Almost always on a used gun (unless it is a consignment) the store will knock something off or throw something in on the deal unless the firearm is something in mega-demand.

I generally don't unless I've already established myself with the store as a regular buyer and I think the price is a bit high. Even at a store I know very well, I won't bargain if I think the price is already very good. At stores that I do not often visit, I've noticed that expressing a mild interest in a gun, but not comitting to a buy, often prompts the seller to offer a better deal.

I very much agree with the post of not trying to get too much off a deal or two, but be a regular customer and some freebies will come your way. I've bought rifles and had bases and rings tossed in, my most recent 1911 had a Wilson ambi safety tossed in for free.

Depends on the shop. Most shops I do haggle but there are some I know are priced fair so I don't, Irvington Arms has good deals on new guns but the consignment guns are whatever the client demands. There is some room on those but it usually affects the shop not the client. I would rather pay more than keep money away from a good shop. I never have t ask for a discount at Canyon Sports, they pretty much know what they need and tell me what that is regardless of the sticker price. I would suggest anyone else haggle there. Then there are times you walk into a shop and the deal just screams at you. I just say Ill take it and move on.

When I worked at the gun store, about 90% of the customers will haggle about the price. I understand that some of the used pistols we had available the mark up is pretty high. Most of the time if we can make $100 bucks on a used gun we're happy so a Colt 1911 purchased for $200, then marked up to $400 will be a happy sale at $350. Not all gun stores have the same procedures and they have more employees requiring salary, so a 100% profit on a used gun is still not making the owner happy. By all means ask what kind of discounts you can get, even if they don't give you the discount on the gun they may provide a discount on ammo or accessories you'll buy.

I used to sell militaria for a friend of mine and we'd get this question quite a bit. My response, especially on something that was priced fairly low was "Yeah, we could probably get $50 more at another show, but this is what we want to get here." He almost peed himself when he heard me saying that he was laughing so hard.

I was at a gun shop not too long ago where a customer wanted to buy a 3,000 dollar rifle. He told the clerk "Give me a good price." No points for guessing the accent. The clerk responded "A good price for who?" To which the customer said "For me, I'll take it for a good price." The clerk obviously wasn't in the mood and said "If you want a 3,000 dollar gun, bring 3,000 dollars."
