Bought a used P220 last year from CA guns and took it to the desert. I was able to shoot my P220 as accurate as I did with the following 9mm platforms that day: Beretta M9 LTT, Glock 17, Sig P320, HK VP9, Beretta PX4 LTT. Yes, it had more recoil but very manageable. If you have the opportunity to buy one, got for it! The P220 shoots like a solid 1911. In my opinion it shoots way better than the HK USPs that I used to own (both in .40 & .45). I may be in the minority here, but I've grown to dislike the USP. Matter of fact I sold my last USP in order to buy the P220 that I now have. No regrets! BTW my carry gun of choice is the HK P2000sk - I don't hate HK.

I don't own a P220 but knew of a shooting buddy in the 1990s who own one. He never stops talking how great a gun it is, the best of the best since .45 acp chambered handguns were invented.

I of course disagree as I am a 1911 die hard. We lent each other's guns back and forth when shooting. And the verdict was : to me the 1911 is the best because I shoot it better, and to him its the Sig P220 because he shoots it better.

The real difference for me, is the straight pull trigger 1911 design is so much nicer than a hinged trigger.

That being said... I have 1911's and a 220 stainless match elite 5".

          Wont sell any of them.

Shot one a few years ago my cousin had and it felt great shot great. I should have picked one up years ago but didn’t. Went 1911 route and love it too but may go with a 220 in 10mm one day.

Funny you say that. I bought my 220 to be a range shooter strictly to keep miles off my 4 1911s. After that, I rarely shoot the 1911s anymore. Still love them though.

I remember about 96 when I was looking being in a south oc shop looking at .45s an oc sheriff was in there guess he was a local In the shop and I was looking at 1911s he tried to tell me
consider the 220 he carried one and pulled his out to show me.

he had a German version and liked the bottom mag release showed me the pluses of the gun real cool guy but I ended up going 1911 no regrets but a 220 in 10 mm would be nice like I said. Hard to beat the steel framed hammer fired sigs

.45 is not my favorite round but I do like the P220 and it shoots well for me.

I’ve shot at least 10,000 rounds through my P220. I had two or three “malfunctions” that were probably user induced during an IPSC type match and that’s it. It was a match so I just did a tap and rack so never knew exactly what happened. By far my favorite handgun. My second favorite handgun? Sig P226. Fortunately, they are a bit out of fashion these days and good prices on used models are out there.
RIP Louis Awerbuck. I miss you and your training.

I was at yzernies (now there's a blast from the past, haven't seen nor heard from him in quite a while) one day picking something up and asked to look at one. Once I gripped it I had to have it and have never regretted it. I prefer it over the 1911.
