    Sig P220 Experiences?

This past weekend, I was in my favorite LGS and saw a P220 Nitron CA model in Like New condition in the shop's Used gun case.
Price was alright and it called out to me...so I bought it.

I don't have any prior experience shooting a 45ACP Sig.
    Shooting 9mm Sigs - SP2022 and P226 - yes. 45ACP P220 - no.
(Note: I've shot plenty of other 45ACP pistols, including 1911, Glock G30SF, XD45, etc.)

Anyone here on Calguns have P220's and can you share your thoughts and experiences!

    I doubt you'll be disappointed.

I’ve shot my friend’s and I really liked it. It felt a lot like my P226 (which is my go to 9mm) but IIRC the 220 fit my hand even better. I would pick one up myself if I didn’t already have five other .45s.

The P220 is one of the most reliable platforms for launching a .45 ACP bullet accurately on target.

If you collect it, you'll be the proud owner of SIG Sauer's legendary history and design, when they were still a reputable brand.

If you range toy it, you'll enjoy the bigger holes it makes on paper.

If you CCW it, you'll have the peace of mind that it will not blow up your balls.
        Long live CALGUNS!

Outside of the 1911, I've felt that the 220 is the best non-1911 platform for .45 ACP. Mine makes me a better shooter than I really am. The gun points so naturally for me, it's almost like it points itself at the target. It's one of those guns I just can't miss with.

I have had a P220 since the 90's. Great gun, tons of rounds through it. It's currently a Gray Guns getting worked over. Can't wait until it's back!

Good catch. I had one in the early 90’s. Then Sig advertised the P220 as being the most accurate.45 ACP out of the box. I’m sure some here will argue the point. That being said, I sold that gun a few years later. I also briefly had a P220 Legion in 2020 but sold it to fund something else. But last month I bought a new one just like yours as I heard Sig was D/C’ing the model and only going to offer the upgraded versions (Legion/Elite). I may be wrong. You hear so many wrong stories in the gun world.

I’ve subsequently shot this gun and love it. I shoot it just as well as my TRP, to the point that I’m going to sell the TRP as the 1911 platform just doesn’t work for me and I’m going to have the Sig as my only .45 pistol. I did add the short reset trigger kit to mine which I feel is a useful addition. A very easy upgrade to do. I also put a strip of Talon grip tape on the front strap. I’m still contemplating the addition of Hogue checkered G-10 grips, Enjoy your new (to you) Sig.

Great gun. There's a short reset trigger kit that I added to it by Sig. And Hogue makes very nice grips for them.

Since it uses a single stack magazine, I see it as an alloy-frame commander size 1911 with different ergonomics.

Had one, sold it, wish I had kept it. One of the guns on my "replacement" list.

Dave - if you want NIB, I would suggest getting one soon since they're getting more difficult to find.
(Unless you can find a PPT transfer seller... I lucked out that my LGS had many pistols in the case from a guy who was selling his collection due to lack of interest from his family...)

They're great shooters, super accurate, and shoot softer than a 1911. I have a German folded slide, non rail one that's stock, and a Combat model.
The Combat a Gray Guns flat trigger and Super Strut, the trigger is great!
Be aware that Combat models have a different rail, and holsters are hard to come by. You can't go wrong with a P220, I want to get a Carry model, same grip with a shorter barrel. The next best .45 imho is a G21. Soft shooting, and accurate too.

I go through my firearm phases so back in '07 I purchased 3 Sigs, all stainless steel. A P220 (.45), P226 (9mm) and a P229 (.40) two tone with the black slide. They sat in my safe lonely up until about two months ago where I went through another gun phase purchasing two polymer striker fired pistols, a shotgun, an AR15, and two 9mm PCC's. My firearm phase was quite different this time around.

Aa far as the 220 and really all three, they are dead accurate and manage recoil well because of the weight. The 229 is a bit snappy. The 226 is a great shooter. I recently took it to the range after sitting for so long (about 17 years) and still accurate as hell. The 220 feels great in my hand with the single stack mag.

IMO you can't go wrong with a purchase of any of these pistols.

I bought a 220 in the 90s ( non rail, black, WG frame, Exceder slide) to keep miles off my Colt 1911s. The Colts don’t see much daylight anymore. I love everything about the 220. I actually shoot it more accurately than the 1911s. You’ll love yours too.
