Haven't bought a handgun in CA in 10yrs, a few questions

So my CCW renewal is soon, and I want to replace the guns to have on it. I've kinda been following the 1 in 30 stuff, it am not sure of the current status with the courts. Does that still apply? I also have C&R +COE, is that still a 1 in 30 exemption? Another question, I have a residence in CA as well as AZ, I keep all my guns in AZ except the 3 on my permit. Can I send guns I own in AZ (rostered) to a FFL in CA to register them to put on my permit without paying tax? If so are here any FFL's in the desert or socal willing to handle this?

    Thanks for the help

1 in 30 was struck down, but also your FFL03 would have exempted you.

I'm not certain about your AZ guns but I THINK you can self report them on the CFARS website.

Good to know on the 1/30. As far as self report, I can't do that. You would have to have all ties severed from California to use the "new resident" self report. Since I don't have ties cut I need to FFL in (roster applies). I'm just curious if tax applies.

Does anyone know if Turner's has issues selling more than one at a time? I hate to buy from them but their sale items are really low priced.

No issues buying as many as you want on one dros ticket.

If you buy in arizona you'd have to register it here by submitting a form to doj with small fee, no tax. Whatever gun you put on your application needs to be registered here.

It would be imported here as if you were just moving here. Pick your few guns, take the course, qualify with those guns and that's it.

My city requires 12 shot drill which requires a reload (we have 10 rd mag limit) which pretty much means semi-auto to meet the time limit. Point of that story is learn your city's qualification requirements!

It sounds like you bought some pistols in AZ but you are and have been a CA resident, Ca will view you as a CA resident. I believe you would have to send the AZ pistols to a FFL in CA and do a dros. That FFL will charge a transfer fee which will vary by each FFL. The question of would tax apply to those pistols you already own is best left to the FFL If you bought them in AZ and paid tax on them in AZ-then no you would not need to pay tax on them.. Normally yes, it would be taxed if you bought it from out of state and did not pay the tax already at purchase.

Will he need to worry whether his AZ guns are on the CA Roster to have them transferred through a CA FFL?

Ya, they have to be on roster. I ended up just going to Turner's today and purchasing some new stuff.

You could pawn them and dros them back to yourself.

No, that would be proof that he failed to comply with the law as written. As it's been said in this thread, since he bought them legally in AZ, they must be on the roster and the must be sent to a CA FFL for transfer.

This is one of the worst laws in CA. You have to pay to transfer your legally owned property to yourself. I don't understand why they haven't gone after this unconstitutional law.
                          Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Exactly. What's crazier, is if I officially severed all ties from CA, then I could bring them back (even off roster) and register them with the online portal. Whatever, I just went and got what I needed for CCW at Turner's, the rest can stay in AZ, that's the only place I shoot anyways.
