    Buy a sig p320?

Yeah, I know, bad time to think about it, but I have a friend who is selling a sig p320-m18 (california version) for a very good price. He's not afraid of it, because he's keeping his m17, but needs the money.

Very bad press about them right now. On the other hand, millions are sold, and this stupid state couldn't find a reason to keep it off the roster. In everyone's opinion, is it a good pistol, or should I run away?

    Thank you.

Yea know....... I'm around guns a lot. I presume almost most here are. I've never had a problem with M18 or P320's. I don't own one, but I qual for the Army with one. I'm also not around them a whole lot to know or experience a statistical outlier of them discharging. But I'm a range master, and I've never seen a mishap on my watch.

I carry a 1911 cocked and locked. I fine with it. But I have a holster with a thumb/trigger break that goes between the hammer and firing pin. Another carry is a snub nose 38spl double action only so again, pretty impossible to discharge. Finally a Glock 43 entirely stock as is out of the box.

However, Sig is getting a disproportionate amount of grief over this model of pistol. I have a newish P365 I was considering putting on my CCW next renewal, but now I'm thinking maybe I should look at the Springfield or SW offerings in that product tier.

    To your specific purchase opportunity:
    1) Do you actually desire the gun.
    2) If this is more than just a good price opportunity is there another Make and Model that can fill the role you intend to fill this purchase with.

    3) and finally............................ if there is an issue with a discharge, even if you BARELY nick someone and only need a simple band aid, no amount of money can replace you wishing you never bought the gun. Even if you simply set the gun on the safe table and it went off what would it take for you to feel safe with that gun.

    *************
There is a non zero chance I would be deployed with said SIG.

I sure as hell would make sure that thing is perfectly clean all the time. Does if fall out of safety tolerances when too dirty? Why is this happening?

I'm not going to try and convince away it's OK when it is overwhelmingly getting so many documented issues from trained users in the field.

    ************************************************** ***************************************
To sum it up.............. I don't own a 320. I do own a 365, and I'm starting to think about replacing it even before I bother getting it on my CCW.

I'm a gun club range master, competitive shooter classified with USPSA and GSSF Master shooter, and NRA Life Member.

Maybe the recent issues will conclude user error. I have until then to decide about my 365.

I'll be buying a new FCU for my 320 Xchange Kits that I have. I don't carry the 320, it's only a range gun for me. If you just want a fun modular range gun, I say buy it.
      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

They are nice to shoot. I would not use one for protection.

There are just too many incidents (true or false) of UD out there (now with Air Force) to take the risk of carrying it loaded. Great for range toy when you know once done shooting the gun will be unloaded. Also depends on the price.

These UD are happening only when the gun is in a holder, particularly duty holster. Remove the holster out of the equation, and the UD's go away. So what is so special about these duty holsters???

Read the FBI report in another thread on Calguns or watch videos where they go over the report and sear concerns.

they had an issue where dropped guns went off - so some risk with a range toy

              aim has the p320
              for $319.99
as a price reference if you do buy it

I'm a SIG guy. I traded in my P320 for an M&P Compact 2.0. I consider the M&P to be superior. Cost is about the same.

You would have to be insane to buy one of these now.

They're an accident waiting to happen. Even if it's just a range gun...that's nuts. Like an un-commanded discharge of a gun is perfectly fine if you're at the range?

                    Hard pass! Don't be foolish.

For a low price X10 I might roll the dice.

I wouldn't touch a Sig, even from years ago. I've had three with defects and two of the three with repeated factory defects. I think that overall, Sigs are quality deficient guns that are marketed like crazy so a ton of people buy them. Based upon my own experience with my three plus some rented Sigs in a handgun class,
I find the brand subpar and will never touch another one and I share my Sig experience with all of my gun friends.
