Do you think the magazine disconnect is absolutely irreversible? Staccato is saying so but I wonder if that's just a CYA statement?

Historically, nothing is irreversable but it's impossible to say without gun in hand

From what others are saying, the way to get around the magazine disconnect is to buy a new grip to replace the CA edition...

            Have to love it......

After years of demand, Staccato is now officially approved for California. Whether it's precision on the range or confidence in the field, the HD P4 is built to exceed every expectation and now it's available in the Golden State.

            Not crazy big.

You'll know when they hit shelves by gun shop parking lots being filled with Tesla Cybertucks.

I applaud them. Looks like those things to bend over for roster compliance are straight up part swaps.

While I am always thrilled when a new manufacturer jumps through all of the hoops our tyrants in Sacramento lay down to sell a gun to Californians, I watched about two hours of tests and reviews. My takeaways are that the gun may not be what I would want it to be for that kind of money, there are significant compromises in the trigger take up to the wall (and all of these reviews are naturally with Free America non MDM trigger groups, our MDM version will, of course, have a worse trigger), the gun doesn't have a grip safety, which may be a net positive or negative depending on your opinions on grip safeties, I'm not thrilled about the iron sights as I am not always of the mind that every handgun needs to wear an optic, the stock irons look to be terrible. Also, watched two reviewers that both said that the beavertail encourages a very high grip but that the safety had a tendency to bite the web of their hand. Not surprisingly, the reviews also complain about the boxiness of the grip, not much of a surprise since it has to hold Glock magazines.

I'm glad it's coming, I know they are beautifully crafted pistols, but definitely do your research and due diligence on this gun. It looks to be an excellent pistol but definitely has too many compromises for me for what will be around $3,000.00 by the time we pay sales tax, and Gav Boys extortion tax on a new one. For the same money, I would take a look at Nighthawk and forgo the 2011, I like 1911s just fine and I wouldn't have a 2011 or a 1911 as my carry gun anyway. But for those of you who are hot for a Cal legal Staccato, looks to be a decent choice.

I concur--Nighthawk or Wilson Combat (or even Dan Wesson). My thinking would change if the magazine weren't limited to 10 rounds.

Anyway, great to see Staccato put in the work to get the pistol added to the roster.

The Platypus supposedly has an excellent trigger right out of the box.

Looking at the design, it doesn't appear to be compatible with the typical 2011/DS 1911 grips that are used for the platform. Plus, it you did, you'd lose one of it's main design focus, the ability to use cheap and readily available Glock magazines.
