    Glock 41/40 10mm conversion

The Glock 41 gen 4 is by far one of my favorite Glocks in my collection. The Glock 40 is one I really want to own. When I learned they can be converted to 10mm, I wanted to jump on it. That's until I saw how pricey the conversion kits are. It's hard enough finding the G40 slide but to see the conversion kit sell for $600+ online, that is like buying a brand new gun. I'm torn and can't decide if conversion is actually worth it. Not like we can buy a Gen 4 Glock 40 here without the hefty price tag.

    Thoughts?

I’d keep a sharp eye out in the marketplace and wait for somebody that needs some fast dough to sell a Glock 40 for right around 12 or $1300. I think that’s the best you’re gonna do. I’ve thought about it myself, but if I was gonna do that, I’d rather spend $3000 on a long slide 1911 or something else that’s bought then rarely shot.😆

What ever you decide do not buy a Glock Store 10mm drop in barrel conversion, since the cut of the breach face is larger on the .45 slide. Even if you change the extractor the case will not extract from the barrel because the breach face is too wide and the extractor will not be able to hold onto the 10mm brass. The best economical solution is to buy a Lone Wolf 6" long slide, use Glock factory internals and a Glock 6" factory barrel. With a Glock barrel you'll be limited to using 200grn bullets and with anything heavier you risk the bullet tumbling. With the right load you can approach .44 Mag velocities without an signs of over pressurization. You'll also need factory 10mm magazines in order for it to run reliably.
      Can DI AR's run dirty?

Unrelated to the thread, what have you heard about KKM 10 mm barrels? Are they drop ins? I haven't looked into them.

Bought the 41 for 750 so throwing 600+ on top of that I'm close to what I would have paid for a glock 40 . I saw one here for sale with a timney installed but it's almost 4 hours from me. 2 trips no thanks.

I picked up a Para LS Hunter a few years back. It's a 1911 long slide (6") in 10mm. I thought 'this it? Where's the horrendous recoil?' I put factory ammo through it, thinking it was the hefty weight. More likely that it was the ammo dumbed down.

I called KKM and spoke to one of their tech and he said they stopped making them due to the case would slip out from underneath the extractor no matter which extractor you used.. He said Bar Sto was producing them but he had no experience with them. He also told me he personally used and recommended the Lone Wolf 10mm slide (frame is the same as a .45) with KKM's 10mm barrel and 10mm mags which ran 110%. I had the same problem with the GS drop in and as stated before the breach face is wider on the .45 vs the 10mm. With the KKM 10mm barrel you can shoot the 220grn/up loads and their barrel will stabilize them just fine. The KKM barrel also gives you a bit more chamber support, but they're a bit tighter also. I have shot some pretty hot loads through a stock 6" barrel and had no signs of smeared primers or smileys on the mixed brass cases.

I looked into doing a .450 Rowland, .45 Super, and .45+P/+P+. The .450 Rowland takes a lot of tuning to get it to run and even then it seemed finicky. The .45 Super isn't bad you will have to play around with springs and if you load your own ammo you definitely need to be sure you don't load a standard .45 case to .45 super velocities or very bad things can happen. +P/+P+ is very expensive if yo can find it and you can beat your frame to death if you shoot a lot of it. 10MM was the easy button for me since it's gaining popularity and use the same pills a .40. I do use a stock Glock recoil spring which is the same as the .45 when I'm shooting just under @ 1100 fps

                  I have a KKM 10mm barrel with a G21 breechface width, so I can shoot 10mm from my G21. It's fantastic.

Does your extractor hold a 10mm round on the 21 breath face? I could never get it to do so using a G21 or G20 extractor.
                    If possible post a pic.

I'm not even sure where that gun is, moved a while back and still not completely unpacked. 🙄🤣

I haven't shot it a lot but don't recall any malfunctions of any kind with it. Several hundred rounds. It's a 6" barrels and I was getting ludicrous speed with Nosler 135s and 800x

There are also 40 Super or 400Corbon that shoots 10mm pills. So 10mm conversion is not the only option.

Caliber conversion barrel has wider tang at the chamber so it will lock up properly with the wider breech. Extractor is only to guide the case during ejection for proper contact with the ejector, even without it installed, case will still eject about 90% of time. One can tuned the extractor so it can hold the 10mm case better in a 45 breech.
