The minor thing I don't like about the XD is that you need to depress the grip safety in order to rack the slide. My gf has small hands so in order to rack the slide back, she has to change her grip on the gun so that her thumb can reach the slide lock. Consequently her hand doesn't always depress the grip safety all the way.

Glock vs Springfield xd

And then once you finish the field striping. You would have to reverse the process when you place the slide back right. You would have to place the side on the receiver properly, rack it back, remember to flick disassemble counter clockwise (it doesn't just automatically go down by itself), and then slide release it forward. What would happen if you don't return disassemble switch back properly in a hurry or panic and hit the slide forward (it will still move forward). What would happen if you pull a trigger on that xd? It might still fire or not. It might blow up in your face if it did or not. It might fire and recoil back, then the slide of falls off the pistol receiver. Glock: You properly place the slide on the receiver, rack it back, and release the slide forward. One less step than the xd has to do. Although, like you, I never had an issue with the use of an xd. I just think glocks are more simple and user friendly.
Glock Gen3 Vs. XDOP,
If I were you, I would completely disregard this person's suggestion as to why you should get one over the other, because they are like 99% similar in how to operate and field strip. They operate different mechanically, but not by much in HOW TO operate. I feel that it's completely misleading suggesting glock is any easier to operate.
1. both come in black. Common
2. both can be found in the same caliber. Common
3. both have polymer pistol grip. Common
4. both use the slide system. Common
5. both has ambidextrous magazine release. Not In Common
6. both slide system is made of metal. Common
7. both pistol design looks the same cosmetically. Not In Common
8. both slide dis-assembly system is the same (no they do the same thing, but the way they achieve it is different) Not In Common
9. they both receive ammo magazine at the pistol grip. Common
10. both required a pistol pull to dis-assemble. Common
I can go on but, I'll stop here! With this quick compare and contrast is 70% alike, but more respectfully at about 85 to 90 if I did it in depth. Far from your 99% the same. Op if you want to listen to him, go ahead.

i said 99% the same in how to operate and field strip.
Mechanical differences, yes. But in HOW TO operate? Point at target, pull trigger. Field strip is pretty similar. That's 99% the same to me.Comment

XD IS SIMILAR TO A gLock, but way better

I am comparing XD to Glock function. Field strip is not the same, because in how it's achieve is different. I am just saying, because I had both and I field strip both too, and you can't forget to reset dis-assembly on a glock, because it doesn't have one in the field. lolIt is always harder to save a life, rather than take a life...

Go hold both guns and see which one feels right in your hands. They're both good guns. I chose the Springfield XDM over the Glock because the Glock did not feel right in my hands. What works for others may not work for you so go handle them both and see which one YOU would prefer.
When it comes to things that actually affect effectiveness, such as the length of the trigger rest, the Glock wins. Trigger take-up or slack on the XD is terrible as well. That's not even getting into reliablity issues with the rather thin extractor which reportedly breaks often, and the finish issues people often complain about since the finish is cosmetic. There are a lot of superficially nice things about the XD. It is a little sexier, feels nice in the hand, but those things are the glossy surface. They don't really matter when it counts. I don't hate the XD. If I had a list of my 10-15 favorite handguns it would make the list near the bottom. The Glock however is at the very top.
It's tough to know how to properly examine a gun unless you have a lot of training in your background. For example, if you don't know what trigger reset is and how important it is to achieving both speed and accuracy, then you won't know to look for it when comparing guns. This same principle can be compared to a laundry list of other features that truly matter when evaluating a gun. Likewise if you don't really know how to shoot yet, then going to the range and firing off a bunch of rounds with different guns doesn't tell you much either. A gun might be playing to weekness and work great under plinking conditions, but be the worst choice for when you have to use it for self defense. On the range you can cheat and cock the hammer back (if it has one) and do other things to scew the test in the weaker guns favor. In a real gun fight you can't. So once you get some training, and start taking courses, then you start to notice little things that actually matter. Since there is no way a brand new shooter will be able to tell what gun is best, people just go with how it feels. They pick it up, hold it and say...boy that's comfy. But in a real gun fight, comfort is probably the least important feature of all. If you can hold it without it actually hurting, and causing you to constantly readjust your grip then it is more than comfortable enough. I would say that every handgun I have held was more than comfortable enough to do the trick.
My recommendation is this. Call up a big name shooting school. Front Sight, GunSite, Academi (formerly US Training Center/Blackwater) and so forth and ask them. 9 times out of 10 they will recommend the Glock over any other handgun, with the 1911 coming in second. These are people who see hundreds of students a week at every level of proficency and see hundreds of thousands of rounds fired each month out of every gun imaginable. They know which guns are easiest to learn on, and easiest to use under stress. They know which guns perform and which guns do not. Their opinion should much more weight than just some random guy on the Internet.Last edited by tacticalcity; 05-17-2012, 10:58 PM.Comment

thats a tough one. both are great guns. i personally prefer the glock 34. my wife likes the xd9 tactical (5.25). the xd has a slimmer grip than the glock. the glock it a bit lighter. if you can get your hands on a xdm v. a plain glock id say get the xdm (only if its the 5.25 that one has the match grade barrel). if your looking concealed carry then the xd is better in my opinion. i dont like glocks double spring system just yet. buy them both thats what i did. to close to call.Glock 34 Sig Stainless 1911 RailedComment

I have shot both they both are different pistols
I shot a Gen 2 Glock 17 and my dad own a XD compact in 45. I liked the glock for the ease of recoil and the while the xd has more recoil it is still a very accurate handgun. To me they are both different pistols I would try both of them to see which you like better.Want to Buy: Ruger PC9 Magazine Buttstock PouchComment
