My 21SF is very comfortable and has never had a failure of any kind. Not sure what you've been reading on the forums, but you should at least try one before giving up on it.

I think at when picking between those guns you really can not go wrong. The best bet is to just shoot one of each or at the very least hold one of each. The glock feels no good for me and the M&P fits me like a glove. So i have the M&P. As far as function goes, they are all going to be about the same with small minor differences. There is a ton of videos on youtube comparing the three.

I'm the opposite, the Glock feels perfect, the M&P feels weird.

You are at odds with yourself on this. CCW vs Competition. For competition you will almost always want a full size gun. 1911's seem to be the go to choice here.

For concealed carry however you want a 4" or even 3.5" barrel. I had a Kahr CW45 that I have to say, if I were to look for a ccw in 45 this would be the gun I would go with. The only reason I got rid of it is that it was the only gun in my collection that was striker fired and I find that for ccw I like the smaller pocket guns. LC9s and LCPs for example.

I have heard nothing but good things on the XD45. Also Ruger makes a full size 45, I think it's the P45? You get a lot of gun at that price. But here is another consideration... 1911 midsized or compact with slim grips makes a perfectly good ccw gun.

Have you seen the Kimber compact with the crimson trace laser grips? Nice. Personally I am pretty frugal so I stick with the RIA 1911's. Still they have a good compact as well.

For home defense? Mossberg 500a
Competion? 1911/2011
CCW? Kahr CW45 You can't beat that gun at that price. And do NOT pay more for the P model with the polygonal barrel. All the tests I've seen show that the cheaper CW with the standard barrel out shoots it every time.

As to glocks? Worst ergonomics of anygun I've every held. Still some people love them. Some people also like getting whipped and spanked. Me, I'm not into inflicting pain on myself

Thats funny, I have big hands and long fingers. Most guns do not fit that well in my hand. That is why I am glad we have a good selection to choose from when it comes to striker fired guns. All three are really great and it always comes down to which fits good in your hand.

The Glock 21 is for big hands (non SF), but that frame feels like you're holding a 2"x4" and the SF would probably be too small if you have big hands. I bet that's why they both feel wrong to you.

thanks for in the input guys... after carefully deliberation I decided to go with GLOCK21 SF...

I was able to get a great deal at Will Bills.... DROS it yesterday and will be release at the end of the month... ;-)

My take on each....

Glock: No frills pistol that was built to be a tool. Comfort and looks play no part in a glock. They are built to shoot bullets and do it very well. Glocks track record is second to none and by a WIDE margin. It is the AK of the pistol world. They are IMO the best pistol to have around when SHTF. If I was on a boat that was sinking, my glock would be the last firearm I throw overboard. Everyone should own at least one.

XD45: Better ergos than a glock but still built as a tool. I dislike the very high bore line XD's have. They feel very top heavy. I also dislike the rear grip safety. Reviews are good but still takes a back seat to Glocks reliability. The XD's I have seen and shot were all very reliable with minor problems ,mostly cosmetic.

M&P: A full featured pistol built to have all that glock lacks (as another member put it to me). Ergo's are very nice and customizable. Defiantly the best feeling out of these 3. Some would say it has too many features. The more parts you have the more that can go wrong. I'm still confused by all the different options but I do like the fact that they can be removed if wanted. Reviews are good but there is not enough years under its belt. Its still unknown how it will perform many years from now. That being said, this pistol is next on my to-buy list but only because I already own a glock

Well I am not a Glock fan. With that said, they are very reliable and will easily make a few trips to and from Hell and ask for more. They just aren't for me.


As for the XD45, well I would pick that over a Glock any day of the week. I really like the XD (Just personal preference). It too is a rugged gun that will take lots of abuse and ask for more.


The M&P is a good gun as well. But I don't trust it like I would a Glock or XD. I don't know why that is either. The trigger is very gritty from the factory. I am not one to mess with triggers or moding guns. But the M&P needs it.


What I would highly recommend is a Beretta PX4 in .45 ACP. However, they aren't on the CA list so you would have to find someone to buy it from. But the PX4 is a great gun (You can buy in 9mm or .40 S&W).


In all honesty, I strongly feel that a .45 ACP should be a heavy frame gun. A nice 1911 or a Sig.... etc. is really (in my eyes) the way to go in .45 ACP.


So far, all my polymer frames are in .40 S&W.


Anyways, as always try to rent all that you can first. Pick what is best for you.

+ the M&P is the only one that's made in the US. That would be my choice.

I had the same decision to make and I ended up choosing the 21SF. I would have went with the M&P 45 if it weren't for the crappy trigger pull and reset. If I could do it all over again, I would get the Gen 4 Glock 21 since its grip is more tacky than the Gen 3, negating the need to use Talon grips.

My 2 polymers are great shooter and pleasant to shoot.
Wilson KZ45 and HK45c. They do reduce felt recoil.

XD 45 tactical here. I would recommend for durability and build. The stock trigger is really bad. It has a long take up and the break is mushy and long. I have been trying to get used to it but it's not growing on me. I hear/read that the drop in kits for the triggers are excellent and a much needed improvement over stock trigger As for shootability, I could point and shoot this gun all day, no sights, no wasted time.

I have no experience with the other two polymers in question, just thought I would add my 2 cents on the XD. Finally thought, try them all out as others have said. No gun fits everyone. Good luck.

Regardless of what some of the people on this board will say, no one can tell you what is best for YOU. You have to go shoot them and evaluate them, and see what works best for YOU. See what you shoot best with, see what is most comfortable. If you shoot them enough, one of them will rise to the top. These 3 pistols are all reliable & accurate, and any of them will serve you well.
