        confirmed

This myth came to the MythBusters in the form of a picture that was too graphic to show on air. After testing the handgun and noting the power of the gun’s recoil and the gasses that emitted from between the barrel and the chamber, Adam and Jamie built a pair of chicken hands to test the damage these gasses can cause to an unprotected hand. While Jamie’s less anatomically-correct hand only suffered some minor flesh damage from the gasses, Adam’s hand – specifically created to mimic the bone and joint structure of a human hand – had one finger blown almost completely off, confirming the myth.

Well I can sure attest to that. When I had my accident the gas burned right through my jeans and singed off a good bit of my leg hairs.

And that was just some mild 45 LC loads. I would really hate to see what the high power magnums can do!

If you are stupid enough to put your fingers ahead of the cylinder on a wheelgun, you don't deserve to have fingers that work. Take up golf or bowling.

I have taken several pics of my little S&W Bodyguard 38 and most of them are like this.

Never really seen anythign coming out of the front of the cylinder, but my camera could be missing it.

.38 are significantly lower pressure than any of the magnums. Magnums also generally use slower powder and lots more of it, hence the mighty blast/flash.

                  Still Dangerous

The lower pressure of the .38 and faster burning powder don't result in the VISIBLE flame that the magnums make, but DON'T put anything next to the forcing cone that you aren't willing to see damaged. The concussive force, while not clearly visible, is still significant.
9mm and 45acp are equally lousy. There's not a dime's worth of difference in REAL terminal ballistics. Get over it.

                    Thanks op!!

I wouldnt call it stupidity as was posted by someone above, but inexperience, and I will take this info to heart as I plan to have several revolvers in my arsenal in the near future.

THIS is why I love Calguns, and I am sure OP was sincere in his warning to revolver noobs.

I am sure you saved someone from losing their finger even though they didnt know it would happen after seeing this post.

For those of you who somehow haven't seen it, heres the story that was going around a year or two ago. It was reposted many, many times, no idea where the original is, this was the first one that came up in google.

Although I don't own any revolvers, I didn't know that side flash could cause injury in such a way. Learn something new every day- Thanks!
