HK USP POPULARITY

The HK USP is legendary. It's a superlative design when it came out in the 90's giving us a robust, durable and reliable hammer-fired polymer pistol option. This design cemented HK as major player in the polymer pistol market which evolved to newer and modern HK pistols that are popular today.
I'm glad HK still makes the USP and supports them.
Shootable and usable today? Hell yes! If you know what you're doing it will go bang and launch a handful of lead to your target.
Popularity? Maybe not like before but it's still a desirable pistol to collect (add some Rainbow Six and Counter-Strike nostalgia).👍 2 -
I like it.
If it wasn't $1000 I'd be all over it!!!

USPs are great, but they lack modern features. That said the controls are what hammered fired pistols should be, SA/DA, safety on the frame with decocker option. They are likely not the first choice today for a defensive pistol, but the 45s can shoot 45 Super with no issues as well. However don't see them as popular these days, and now they are off the roster in this crazy state. Probably propping up their value.Last edited by FNGGlock; 09-23-2024, 10:40 AM.Comment

H&K’s are nice and durable, the only thing that I find a minor issue is that they have a little bit higher bore height than the Glocks that I’m accustomed too.
Other than that I trust those pistols

I own an HK USP Compact 9, made around 2013 I believe. Wonderful pistol. Shoots better than I can. Very manageable recoil given its robust construction. If I decide to go for a carry permit, it'll be one of the two I register for that purpose. If you don't have one and are thinking about it, I say you can't go wrong and won't be disappointed.USN Veteran, Gun Owners of Calif. Member, NRA Life Member

I don't see USP pistols at competition very often, but when I do, I remember them, because they're a really nice design and very cool guns. They weren't easy to find in LGS glass cases as much as the plastic fantastics are (back when they were on roster). Now that they're off-roster, I think their prices have risen in this state.
The DA/SA function of the USP is one I like the most - you can flip it to Safe, Off, and pulling it all the way down, decocks it. That's a design I'd want for other guns too, like Beretta, where putting it on safe ALSO decocks the gun, or SIG where there's not even a SAFE option. CZ-75? you pick whether you want a decocker or cock/lock version of the gun. Yes, I do know there's exceptions but that's for most of these guns in the field.
The one thing that takes getting used to is the mag release, having to push down, instead of "in". It's great that its also ambi, but its different from anything else.
What I don't like is Hk the company itself, being a police/military contractor, they're not (historically) willing to open up individual/personal sales, so support is not as good as other well-known brands, including SIG, another police/military contractor that also does personal/individual sales.Last edited by Zenderfall; 09-27-2024, 3:59 PM.NRA Pistol/Rifle Instructor

IMO, the USP in .45 is one of the top three handguns on the market today, still (alongside the Glock 19 Gen 5 and the Glock 20 Gen 5). It's not the smallest or the highest capacity, but it is (in my opinion) the most reliable and durable handgun ever made, and is in the top 3 for versatility (if not first).
If they were easier to acquire, I'd have one. If I could only have one handgun, it would be a USP .45 or a Glock 20. I genuinely regret selling the one I used to have before I moved to Californistan.Comment

I have a USP Expert in 45 ACP.
A little big for my hands but I nevertheless shoot it better that other guns that seem to fit far better. I really enjoy shooting it. That thing shoots like a laser pointer. It would probably be one of the last guns I would part with.Comment

Yeah the Experts are the perfect USP IMO. I’m used to a Glock 21, so not bulky at all :-)

Agree completely. I own a HK USP compact 9 and it is an outstanding, accurate, mild recoiling pistol. Will never sell itUSPs are great, but they lack modern features. Ahh because the pistols just work reliably and that’s the 1st most important reason for a sd pistol, everything else is just what you “ think ya need “. Glocks and H&K’s have worked for me just fine, no need for the rest.
