If you're just looking for a plinker, the S&W 22a is easy to disassemble and clean. Just push a button and pull out the barrel. Similar to a High Standard or Model 41 Smith. It also has a Weaver rail in case you want to add a red dot. They go on sale for around $200 all the time. It's my loaner/newbie/I don't care if it gets scratched pistol.

I have an AA .22 convesion for my Glock 17 and a 1911. The 1911 requires a tool to disassemble. The Glock is just as easy as field stripping. I also have a factory .22 conversion for my Beretta 92FS. That swap is also easy as field stripping.

10/22s ARE easy to clean.... just grab the brake cleaner and hose the biotch out

At least thats what I do with everything I shoot

            Yes indeed.
I have one of those too.
I like the Smith 41 better though.

I have a S&W 422, that I believe is no longer made. It's very easy to take down and clean, but does require a tool (i use an old door key). I took my first shooting lessons with a Ruger MkII. The reason I did not buy it was that the instructor said it was hard to clean (apparently he doesn't do it often, it jammed frequently from being dirty).

My next dedicated 22 will most likely be a revolver.

If you don't mind spending the dough, get a Hi Standard supermatic citation. It has a better trigger than my uncle's smith 41, and shoots slightly better groups. The barrel does come off for cleaning with the push of a button, and with the open action design not much crap gets back into it. THe S&W 41 does get my nod for pretty though- the lines are great.

For rifles, if you don't mind a lever gun, get a lever .22. The barrel is easy enough to clean and the action does not get dirty. And they're fun!

I have rugers, a smith 41 and a high standard.
The best thing is to have all of them.
Then you can argue over which is better and always have the best gun.

WTF? 10/22 is the easiest gun of mine to disassemble and clean.

Try taking apart a Winchester 190 to clean.
