Oh, since you (OP) is in socal, turners has a CG coupon for the G19 at $499.98 (ends tomorrow/Thursday).
As good as it gets without a blue label or GSSF or store price hunting.
Glocktober is overrated - pay more for some gear (I might be wrong this year
).

you really MUST fire every pistol you are considering. There's no other way around it. It you are friends with a lot of firearms enthusiast, make it a day to try them out.
This is a lot like cameras. It comes down to 'how it feels' to you. I test fires a SigP220, H&K, yet surprisingly, neither felt "great" in my hands. Picked up a Glock (full size in my case) and loved the sights - very quick acquisition, yet if didn't feel "quite" right. Picked up a Springfield XD and it felt PERFECT, but it had terrible sights when compared to the Glock.
So while it's good to ask here, you really need to hit a rental, and simply spend a hundred dollars on several of your picks and 50 rounds through EACH gun, and then decide. It will be worth the effort. It's how I ended up with a 1911 SA when looking for a .45ACP - tried a few of the rental .45 guns from H&K and Sig but for some reason, the 1911 style frame just feels right. I do plan on updating the sights as it was the one big drawback but this particular dealer just didn't have the tritium sight option available at the time of purchase, which is fine. I plan on that this year.
PS: Have you considered a Springfield Armory XD 9mm in subcompact form?

if you need a compact then thats your gun. my experience with them is that my pinkie finger is half of half off the bottom of the grip. so for me if i was shooting it a lot (and i would) thats a bit small. for example the gun i want for in my truck is a g26. very small and if needs be i can shoot it 10x. I take my g34 to the range all day. it just fits my had well. bursa makes a fine compact and subcompact. again its more based on what type of shooting you want to do and how well it fits in your had.Glock 34 Sig Stainless 1911 RailedComment

I bought a Walther PPQ a few months ago, my wife loved it so I gave it to her for CCW. Then a neighbor was selling his Glock 19 and sadi we could go try it out.So I took my wife out, had her run a magazine through the PPQ, then a magazine through the Glock. After three rounds with the Glock she stopped and said "we're buying this gun". As much as she likes the PPQ, she likes the Glock better. I hate to say it, but after shooting them side by side, I did too.Comment

I've had a G19 for a carry gun since 1992, and it is also fine for home defense and IDPA competition. However, if you are only going to get one Glock, get a G17. You get a little more weight and a longer sight radius, but you also get the versatility of the standard small frame. You can put a G34/G17L/G22/G24 or G31 top end on it whereas the G19 will only work with G23/G32 top ends.
G17, G34 and a G17L use the same frame

Same for the G24

and beware, Glocks tend to multiple......

I have shot the G19 and it felt good. I am just after other suggestions and do intend to try (read - rent) some of the others people seem to favor. It is sort of like a car, you may like the Corvette, but someone else likes the Maserati. I do want the smaller 19 over the larger, bulkier 17 that would tend to print when used as a CCW.Comment

I have a Glock 19 and the M&P 9 and 9c. The Glock is a good gun, but I prefer my Smith pistols for ergonomics, shooting comfort, and accuracy.
You won't go wrong with either.LASD Retired
