Well I'd love to have a 1911 chambered in 9mm, probably looking at the Kimber just because of the Springfield EMP issues. Help me with my decision please!!!

EBR in Thousand Oaks has RIA 1911 9mm tactical for about $620 OTD after SSE and all that fun stuff. Contact Mike and he'll help you out.
The RIA costs half as much as the SA and Kimbers.Comment

Now that I think about it it's amazing how many times I posted the same thing over and over again over the last couple of days. Oh wait, we have people asking for the same thing every day !
This is actually one of the more popular questions here

My uncle had the springfield target 9mm and it was a jammomatic POS but every manufacturer puts out a bad one now and then so I didn't think much of it. I was at an steel challenge match a few weeks ago and someone had the same gun and halfway through she had to borrow someone else's gun because the thing kept malfunctioning no matter which mag she used. The 9mm 1911 can be finicky but Springfield's customer service is amazing so I know they would fix it up if it did give you trouble. Now I have also heard from quite a few calgunners on here that they have had zero issues with theirs so you just never know.Originally posted by barrageThat's because Excelsior threads are like toilet bowls. I had the regular non-target loaded (which I guess is the preferable one) and it was also a jam o matic. It needed serious gunsmithing before I got it to be mostly reliable. The biggest issue is magazine compatibility since they are basically 38 super mags with spacers. I had to tune the ejector, the extractor, throat the barrel and chamber, fit the slide to the frame, go to a tighter bushing etc. Now it is one of my favorite guns because it is silky smooth and it feels like shooting a 22.My uncle had the springfield target 9mm and it was a jammomatic POS but every manufacturer puts out a bad one now and then so I didn't think much of it. Sometimes you get lucky with the 9mm 1911's and sometimes you don't lol. My uncle was shooting the steel challenge worlds down in Piru and had such a terrible first half because of the thing malfunctioning. On the second day Bob Marvel took the gun apart and fixed it and got it to eject the brass in the same exact spot and got it running right. He promptly sold it as soon as he got back because he was so frustrated with the gun.I had the regular non-target loaded (which I guess is the preferable one) and it was also a jam o matic. Well, I don't like hearing about the SA jamming, but I really think I would enjoy the Kimber. I'm looking for a little more quality than the RIA, not that I have anything against them but I honestly like the bling factor of the Kimbers and SA.sigpic

I wasn't trying to steer you away from the SA but just wanted to give a heads up. If you are unlucky and you get a bad one, SA will make it right and take care of it so you won't be stuck with a clunker. I have also read on the forums that people have had good experiences with the same gun so it really is YMMV.Originally posted by barrageThat's because Excelsior threads are like toilet bowls. I have a Kimber target and have 1k rounds through it with no issues. I bought it because the fit and finish is top notch. After shooting, I realized that it's a tack driver. The trigger pull is super smooth which gives me the ability to put 10 rds within 1.5 inch at 10yards with ease.Last edited by rccar; 05-04-2012, 7:18 PM.Comment
