That would be because it is one of the best triggers/actions ever invented.

Just enough of a pull not to require a manual safety and still be safe to carry. Every trigger pull is the same which makes it extremely easy to master. Shortest factory reset for this type of action which translates to faster follow up shots without pulling yourself off target. It is not a target pistol (not out of the box) but is the finest defensive handgun ever invented.

Yes, many cops use it for everyday use. The same cops will probably use their old beat up commuter to get to work. I doubt you’ll ever see a cop carry a Wilson 1911 in their holster. So yes, I’m convinced that it’s a great tool but no matter what, it’s still an eye sore. Perhaps your tactical mind is beyond acknowledging a nice skirt.
Faulty argument based on your own bias. Your comparisons do not hold up to the reality. You are trying to say that cops use them because they are dirt cheap and have no choice. That is not reality. Bean counters hate the Glock, because it does not have a thumb safety to prevent NDs or a DA pull that supposedly gives the officer time to change his mind if the hostile turns out to be a kid with a squirt gun. Neither "perception" about the Beretta 92 and similar pistols holds up to reality, but that was the myth bean counters bought into for years. Officers had to fight hard to get their departments to switch to Glocks.

Furth evidence of this is that they are the favorite gun of Delta Force Operators. 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (1st SFOD-D) aka Delta Force for the old timers are probably the finest and most highly trained combat pistol shooters in the world. Unlike most military units they focus very hard on the handgun, while most others put considerably more emphasis on other weaponsystems like rifles and the like. Delta send more rounds down range in a week than most gun owners will in their life time. They can choose any handgun they want and are not limited in any way. Budget is not an issue. According to several books published by former members the vast majority choose a Glock variant, with the 1911 variant coming in a close second. The reason is stated in those books as being the reliability, and the consistency and speed that you get from the Glock's action.

I would submit, any member of Delta Force knows a heck of a lot more about what makes a good combat handgun than anyone on this forum. If Glocks "sucked" they would not use them. Period.

Sources for Information on 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (1st SFOD-D) and their preferred firearms:

      1. "Kill Bin Laden" by Dalton Fury specifically states that Delta Operators use both the Glock and 1911.

      2. Interview with the author Dalton Fury that says he still carries a Glock as his CCW weapon now that he is a civilian despite liking the 1911.

      3. "The Mission, The Men, and Me" by Pete Blaber iis another book by a Delta Operator that talks about how they use Glocks. Have yet to read the entire book myself. Plan too soon.

      4. "Inside Delta Force" by Eric Haney, talks about how they use the 1911. However, Haney was a founding member and has been out for a very long time. In otherwords, he predates the adoption of the Glock. His book is another great read, but not as exciting as the above mentioned book by Dalton Fury.

      5. "Not a Good Day to Die" by Sean Naylor also discusses the use of the Glock by 1st SFOD-D. Have yet to read the entire book myself. Plan too soon.

A lot of us do conceal carry, or carry openly for a living. Others just enjoy training realistically. So we need a really simple, easy to shoot, efficient and effect gun for that.

I get what you are saying. Glocks are super ugly (though the new ones are much better looking than they were when I got into them). But that simplicity in looks also translates to simplicity in use. Which makes them extremely effective. So I could careless what it looks like. It's concealled inside my holster. My range trips are not a fashion show. They are training days where I push myself to my limits and do my best to get smoother, faster and more proficient.

Try taking a 4 day defensive course with a Beretta M9, then again with a Glock (or vice versa). You'll suddenly start loving the Glock. Why? During that course there is no cheating. No skipping the Beretta's nightmarishly long first DA pull. You will have to shoot it once for over 2 -5 shots you do on SA. When compared to range trips where you cheat and spend all your time on the easier SA suddenly the Beretta starts to look like the pain in the rear it really is. As a new shooter you will notice that with the Beretta your target has one grouping high and one grouping low and very few shots where you wanted them. That's you underdoing and then rushing the DA pull and overdoing the SA pull. However, on the Glock the trigger pull is the same every time. So you get one consistent grouping. You are also faster on your first shot thanks to no thumb safety to flick off. In time you could master both the Beretta and the Glock...but you will get to a higher level of proficiency faster with the Glock.

The above is how I personally realized the Glock was the gun for me, and I stopped carrying about looks and started carrying about easy of use.

If all you do, and all you ever want to do is plink...then I can see how the Glock is unappealing to you. But if you want to shoot and train like a professional...suddenly that ugly boxy chunk of metal and plastic looks damn sexy. These days there are plenty of Glock-like guns to choose from. By that I mean guns that function very much like a Glock. But I have to find one with as short of a trigger reset. And as you will learn in your first course, exploiting the rest is how you gain both speed and accuracy in your follow up shots. So I have yet to find one I would choose over the Glock. Someday, maybe.

1911s are another simple to shoot gun. They have the same very short pull every time and despite having a thumb safety to contend with the pull is so light that you get a lot of speed with them. However, they also have a lower magazine capacity (which is NOT a plus no matter what some giant ego says), are typically more tempormental, and are also heavier in general which makes carry less comfortable. So you get much sexier looks, and an amazing trigger with results in slightly better accuracy but there are also some negatives in there as well.

Even if you believed 1911s are the absolute best guns on earth, the Glock would still be the next best option from a defensive shooting perspective if you're honest. For me it is the other way around.
