    First 1911: Sig Nitron Rail

I've owned a bunch of pistols: metal, polymer, striker, hammer, but never a 1911. I've fondled em in stores, but never fired one before. I shot my buddy's WWII-era Remington 1911 (which haddn't been cleaned or shot in ~20 years) and it was probably one of the smoothest shooters I've handled. It had a few failures to feed, but it could be my cheap reload ammo coupled with his factory 1940's recoil spring. Either way, I fell right in love and that night decided to drop for a new one.

Been looking at a bunch of makes and models and settled on the Sig Nitron Rail. Loved Sig for a long time (had a 226 and 2022), and their 1911s seem to have a LOT more features dollar for dollar without a sacrifice in fit, finish, and quality. Fell in love with the nitron/cherry looks of the Nitron and have always loved having rails. Dropped payment and started DROS. I pick it up in about another week. Can't wait!

As far as 1911 vs (insert other gun), I don't really care. I also have an XDM9, XD45, 92FS, and 2022 (which is for sale). I don't know if it will replace the XD45 as a nightstand gun, but it's smoother, tighter, and more crisp than anything else I own.

Please let me know how you like the Sigs 1911.

I've been eye balling Sig's as one of my choices for 1911 handguns.

It seems almost impossible to find a Springfield, Colt, and Kimbers at the moment, but there seems to be an overflow of Sigs so this might end up being my only choice as well.

^ I've heard mixed things about Kimber. Some people love them, some people list off complaints about them. I think I would have been equally happy with a Kimber (something like a TLE), but they were more expensive than Sigs. Colts looked really cool as an XSE or a 100th aniv model, but all of them were WAY more expensive with WAY fewer amenities. Paying for the name, I guess. I can't even remember the last time I even saw a Springfield in person!

I have an XD that I use for HD. If you've put the time and effort in to train with it. Keep it as your night stand gun. Different platform and you'll want to break in and get used to your 1911.

              Enjoy looks nice.

Great choice, can't beat the quality and especially the features offered on the Sig 1911/GSR platform for the price. I love my GSR target, best 1911 I have owned so far.

It is a shooter so shoot it, you don't have to baby Sigs like a lot of 1911's out there. It doesn't cost $2000+, has all the features a $2000+ 1911 has, and you can treat it like an RIA. Whats not to like?

                          That's why I got it!

I've been bit pretty bad by the 1911 bug recently and I'm already looking to buy a second one! A simple GI/WWII style one. Thinking the Springfield MilSpec or GI, or the more expensive Remington R1.

Very nice. I've fondled a few of them at Iron Sights and elsewhere. Just felt right in the hand. I suppose once I get working again, I'll get serious about obtaining one. Definitely want a railed version. Funny enough, I have an XD45 Tactical as my nightstand gun too. Same one I went through the 4 day pistol course at Front Sight with.
