Sig's 22lr conversion

I've narrowed down my choices of handgun to the P series Sig, and I see the 229s and 226s are occasionally sold with an additional slide, barrel and mag for the lighter/cheaper caliber. Seems like the best of both worlds...am I missing something? Anyone have experience with Sigs kits? Thanks in advance for your comments.

I have a friend who has a SIG 229 (.40S&W) with a .22LR Slide Kit. Just be aware of the pickyness of ammo...has a tendency to jam on some. Nothing like training on Tap, Rack, Bang drills. Works good when it works.

I love sigs, but I hate there .22s kit. The slide doesn't lock upon on the last round(unless you buy different followers), not very reliable with bulk .22s ammo and the mags cost $50 each. After shooting 500 rounds, I sold it.

If I were you, I'd buy a ruger sr22 and never look back.

If you look at the cost of the conversion, you can often buy a complete firearm and not put any wear on your more expensive firearm. I personally like the Ruger MkII or MkIII.

I had my 226ST fitted with the .22lr conversion kit when I had the action tuned. It runs flawlessly and I use it for practice and for teaching. I just feed it the recommended CCI Mini Mags in the hundred pack...I have friends who have shot it with other brands, but why mess with reliability.

The advantage of the conversion kit is that you are practicing with the same trigger pull and reset as your CF pistol and all the controls are not only identical, but have the same feel. I use the same holster and mag pouches when running a string of fire to practice movement also

I've got a 22kit on my 226 and while it does not like the cheapest crap ammo, it does shoot just about everything else.

It does need the sigpower parts though, I don't know why Sig does not just add those as the default.

The kit is a lot of fun, and for now its my only 22 pistol.

Oh yeah, and its stupid easy to takedown and clean unlike the Rugers....

I actually have one for my p220. For years I was reserved about getting one but had finally decided to give it a try. I do agree with above about adding the sigpower parts along with replacing the really weak factory mag spring with that of one of my Advantage Arms Glock mag springs (built pretty strong) and have been able to consistently run RGBs and CCI Blazers. Also as someone else mentioned, it helps being able to train on the same platform but with a cheaper ammo alternative. Great overall investment in my eyes...

I have a conversion kit for my 229r and no issues with it. Works best with CCI ammo. As mentioned above, you retain the same trigger pull and reset.

I've read that it's cheapter to buy the .22lr version, which will includes a "coupon" for a caliber xchange kit in any of the 3 p226 calibers.

you might want to look into that.

Not when you figure in that you'd have to SSE the .22lr pistol to get it in CA

I bought one for my 226 and love it.

My only complaint is that sometimes it can be very tricky to take down. I thought I had it all figured out at one point, but then I shot it exclusively for about 6 months, decided to go back to 9mm again, and it took a lot of fidgeting before I could get it off again. My Sig is 20 years old, so you may not experience the same thing with newer versions.

The SigPower followers are a good investment.

just reviving this thread...so for 850 you can have a p226 22LR and a 9mm conversion kit.

thep226 9mm MRP is 900 but sells for 750

Does this seem like a good deal or is it cuz you end up with a p226 22LR frame
shouldn't you end up with an exact p226 once you convert it?

You're forgetting to factor in the cost of importing the pistol into CA...it isn't on the roster

I'm moving back to CA in a few months...trying to stock up.
plus even if you are importing it, 850 for both vs 750 for a bare bones p226 + 300 for a conversion kit I think going the 22LR route is still cheaper

found some info on some sig forums and it sounds like the cheap route to have both a 22LR and a 9/357/40.
Few guys have done it to save money
People say the frames are the same and that they don't have any issues.

I'll post more info when I get it...
